Christi, I am an AOL Subscriber, and after going to the site and casting my vote, I find that it will not allow the "E-mail" to go thru to you.
Hello all, Due to the number of folks that seem to dislike the copies of the web board posts that appear on our mailing list and the number of folks who don't seem to understand how to respond properly to them, I am considering asking that the gateway which allows these copies to come through be closed. If the majority of the list would like the copies to continue, I will leave things as they are (with the reminder that in order to post a reply to these messages, you will need to post it directly to the board address listed in the email, NOT to the mailing list). BUT, if the majority of folks want the messages stopped, I will have the gateway closed and we will no longer get copies of the web postings. So that I can get a fair and equitable accounting of the consensus of the majority, I have created a "web poll" for voting. Please visit it and cast your vote either "yes" for continuing to allow the copies, or "no" for closing the gateway and stopping the copies. I will leave the poll up until midnight CST on Friday so you will have two days to get there and vote. I do not want to start a discussion on this "on-list" but will be more than happy to take your comments and concerns into account if you include them with your vote. After the voting is closed I will tally the votes and review the comments and will post to the list to let you know the results. The address for the poll is http://jadis.dyndns.org:8080/genealogy/dunn/poll.html Just a few points to consider before voting... 1) If the gateway is closed, we lose a potential source of "connections" via the list and each member would have to be responsible for checking the web boards occasionally on their own if they so choose. 2) Most people know how to delete and can just delete the extraneous messages if they choose whereas if the gateway is closed, they don't have the choice. 3) The web boards allow for an additional outlet/inlet for researchers looking for their ancestors. When the gateway is closed, that potential is lost. Now, I personally don't care one way or the other. I have to monitor the boards anyway as part of my "job", so either way is fine with me. Just want to do what the majority decides... THanks! Christi How can one ancestor cause so much TROUBLE?? It's been a while since I inquired about my gggrandfather George Dunn. It appears there are new users of the Dunn site, so I'll make another appeal for info. Here's what I know....George Dunn temporarily left his wife, Margaret, and their children, in Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1862. He had been engaged by the Confederacy to ply his engraver's trade in the service of the CSA in making plates for currency and bonds. After a couple of run-ins with the Union blockade of the American South, he reached Richmond, VA, where he set up a printing/engraving business, Geo. Dunn & Company. I've found numerous examples of his work on the internet. This includes banknotes, bond issues, and many editions of sheet music that was written by, and for, southerners in 1863/64. I know that, at some point after the Civil War, George Dunn relocated in the North, probably in the NY metropolitan area, and worked in the printing trade again. But I don't know exactly where he lived or worked. He died on July 18, 1883, but I don't know where he was buried. Although the above information is sketchy, I hope someone will be able to identify with it and help to fill in the wide gaps in my knowledge of George Dunn. My fingers remain crossed. Hi All, here is a website that lists Dunn's in (some) cemeteries in Wisconsin. Interesting... I have William DUNN, b. Feb 1835 Ireland, don't know parents names. Emmigrated 1850. m. about 1865, Emma or Mary G. HATCHER b. 1845, Ohio, father John HATCHER. William died 12 June 1903 Rhinelander, WI By 1870 they were in Bear Creek, WI Their Children: George & Ellen (twins); John; Frank; James; Michael; William; Mary; Anna; Stephen; Henry; Katherine. Mother listed on 1870 Census as Emma, this name is also listed as mother of the first 5 children on baptismal certificates; thereafter Mary listed as mother and on subsequent census. Ellen had a child out of wedlock in the Waupaca Poor House, in Manawa, in 1897. This child was my grandfather. However, the county clerks office records state that Ellen died in the poorhouse, two days after my grandfather was born. However, I have pictures of her both before and after that date, and she is the spitting image of her mom and also her brothers and sisters. Anyone else have any Dunns in this locality or any that match up with this line? Thanks, Linda Seaman

Does anyone have any information on my 2nd great grandmother, Ruinda Dunn, born 19 May 1798 in NY, married 1816 either in Pittsford, NY or in Pittsford, VT. to William Augustus Hopkins of Rutland, VT, and died Feb. 1886 in Parkman, Ohio. Thanks for any assistance. Robert Caris
Hi Linda,Our William Dunn was b. 1810, brother to Annie, b. 1806, and Hanna, b. 1808. Unfortunately, we do not know their mother's name, Their father is John Dunn. William and the girls must have lost their mother by 1811 as John then married Rachel Porter(1811) in Henry Co. William died somewhere in Illinois along with his son William Edward, sometime after 1870-they are believed to have been part of a wagon train going to Illinois from Ky. William was married to Catherine Wright from about 1837 to 1863 when he married Susan (Eldridge)Yelton Wright. Williams half siblings were Robert, b. 1812, Mary , b 1814, Jeremiah H., b. 1818, Margaret, b. 1819, John, b. 1821, and Catherine Ellen, b. 1824. Roslyn.
