Neil, Do you have any reference of some of your Dunns coming over from England around 1882 and bringing with them a young boy around 7 that was not a family relative but a friend named John David or David John Pierce? The Dunns that brought my great grandfather over with them settled in Ontario. He raised his family mostly in St. Catharines. I hope that this will be a familiar story with you. I am at a dead end. Do you have any idea where your great grandfather, Elton, came to NM from? There's a slew of Dunns in KY, including Caldwell County, which is where my Dunns hail from. To help, we really need to know more, such as where the family came from, where they settled in NM, etc. Have you gotten a copy of Elton Dunn's death/funeral records to see if they list his parents or place of birth? I have luck with that. Email me at: srchn4prices@aol.com if you like.
With reference to the last paragraph in your email: I have gathered a list (?) of over 1000 Dunn descendents starting with a JAMES DUNN (b. 1794) and a DAVID DUNN (b. July 1796). All the descendents are Canadian citizens and living in Canada. We cannot find any trace of a couple of Dunns that left for the U.S.A. If this this is of any use to you or any other Dunn family member please let me know and we'll figure out some way of getting it to you. Probably why they were married there. James was born in 1761 and Elizabeth was born ten years later,1771. James was in the Revolutionary War as a young man. Their son was David and his son was James David and his son, my grandfather was David Richard Dunn {nickname "Doc"} I know that there were two different lines and I was under the impression that my grandfather was Irish. I found his name in the war books in Edenburgh Scottland listed over and over again. I am trying to find James Dunn and Elizabeth's parents. I hope this info is of some help to someone out there.
