John and Mary were parents of (among others) my gggrandfather, Thomas Dunn, who was also married to a Mary (Molly) Peters (not the same one, of course, but from the same Peters family and of different generations). Thomas and Mary were the parents of (among others) Madison Dunn, my gggrandfather. Madison and his wife Cynthia Shumate were the parents of (among others), Rufus K. Dunn, my ggrandfather.

I'd love to share what I've learned about the Mayfields and Dunns - I don't have a whole lot but some - if you're interested. Attached are a few old photos.

Have you found a wife for him yet? I have a John Dunn b. about that time frame and d. in Pittsylvania Co., Va I think because that is where I found my gggrandfather Matthew had been b. and d. 3. Have you looked in Pennsylvania or New Jersey? Our Dunns(mine was also a John Dunn b. in Pa n 1752, in Ireland, son of James and Martha. They lived in Va and Pa for a while during the RW. and finally went to Ky.) . There was a large clan of Dunns across the river from Pa in New Jersey. I believe of Hugh Dunn. You may find your Thomas there. It is always possible Hugh and James were related, but we have not found a connection-wish we could as they all seemed to have the same names and some of them ended up in Ohio and possibly Ky, also. The farthest back I can get is my gggggrandfather John Dunn, b. 8/21/1758, Albemarle Co., VA, d. after 1834. I wish I knew who his father was and where he was born. If anyone has a clue, please let me know.
