I have been working on a James R Dunn born about 1832 in SC. On the 1860 Rush Co., IN census there is another James Dunn living a few dwellings down, born about 1810 in SC as well. I am thinking that they are father and son, but not positive. When I look up the James born in 1810 on familysearch.org, it shows that he was born in Abbeville Co., SC. There are also similiar names that you have mentioned in his line. Could you please get back with me so we can see if there is a connection. I have had trouble with this line for quit some time. Thanks, Brian.

Can SKS please offer assistance if you know these names? I have very little information about them. Anna's birth date is March 20, 1987. I know only one of their children, Julia Dunn who was born January 12, 1920 in a hospital at Lynn, MA even though there was some suggestion that they really lived in Boston (comments overheard years ago). Julia married Clarence Reckinger in MN and that is where she raised her children and lived out her life. Edward was in the military, they were divorced at some point. Anna married again to a MOSER and later to a POPJOY at the time of her death. I appreciate any suggestions or information anyone can provide. Thank you. Jeanine

Anyway, I am still working on this line. I believe the parents of Hattie and George are James R Dunn and Mary A Keaton. If you look on the 1860 Rush Co., Census you will see these two. James R Dunn is listed as being born in S.C. If you look a couple of dwellings down, there is another James Dunn that was also born in S.C. This James is of the right age to be our James R's father. If you don't have access to the census records, I would be glad to send you a copy. Will you look at this and let me know what you think. Thanks, Brian.

MY MOTHER DONNA JO IS HIS DAUGHTER. i am looking for any information i can get on him. i would like to know my grandfather of know what he was like. my mother was born in boulder colorado in october of 1945, and i believe that they got married there but cant find any information out on their marriage or divorce at all.
My maiden name was Dunn, and we are part NA. But it was from my father's mother's side, not his paternal side. As far as I know, my Dunns were all Scot/Irish who came over here in the 1700's. As for being listed as white. That happened a lot in documents, especially the census. Even if people weren't trying to hide their heritage. My NA people are listed as everything from being black to white.. all in the same GG Grandfather's lifetime! DNA tests show there is no black in our line. A lot of times NA's were listed as either black for white. The gov't listed them as just about anything except what they truly were. Talk about a way to 'rewrite' history. Just take all the NA's and tell the world they are white or black and maybe they'll disappear... ok ok.. I won't get on that horse. Also Oklahoma. My mother was Half indian, and I believe my Grand father Thomas Dunn was also. He lived in Lamar Oklahoma and died there.I was very small then. I remember my grandmother married to him was German. My grand mother on my mothers side was full indian. She married George. Mac Millian. They both died in LivingstonTexas. Not sure if they were part of the Aalabama Coushata tribe there or not. My brother Edward Leon always said we were part Native American but registration states white. There was a lot of discrimination back when I was a young fella in Oklahoma and Texas against us always being called half breeds. We all claimed to be white, my mom got the worst of it because she was dark and had raven black hair. dad was light skinned and blue eyes. Most of us got green eyes and light brown hair.So it was easy to pass as full white.

Nehemiah was brother to Josiah Dunn, and both were sons of Benjamin and Sarah Dunn. Benjamin and Sarah sold land back in Bladen Co. NC within months of getting their land grant in GA, and the deed reads "... Benjamin Dunn, Planter, of the province of Georgia..." The land he sold in NC had been originally granted to George Ackland, and it was adjacent to Richard Dunn. That Richard Dunn had a son John Dunn Sr. who inherited all Richard's land, being the oldest son. It could be that Richard had bought the Ackland land, John inherited it, and Benjamin came into possession of it from John. There seems to have been another son who was brother of Josiah and Nehemiah as well. Divvying up Sarah's land in 1804, there is a Joseph Dunn heir that we can't account for. He is listed directly after living daughters and their husbands, and directly before the children of deceased Josiah Dunn. So we've found a connection between Benjamin/Sarah Dunn and Bladen Co NC. Next we need to find a connection between him and John Dunn Sr., if there is one. I do know that wherever Benjamin Dunn was, there was always a John with him. Also, it may be that Josiah's son Thomas lived with a John Dunn (uncle?) in Jackson Co GA after the death of his father (and mother?). The marriage license for Thomas and Nancy Ward says 'Thomas Dunn of Jackson County..." But then, you may have already found all this.

I'm not sure if it is the correct John Dunn or not, but it may give me a place to start. I seem to be hung up on this generation and unfortunatley my twin sister are the only ones in our family left so we have no other family members to try to get info from. I'm really not sure how far we will be able to get.
