    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Dunn Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/hlT.2ACEB/3659.2 Message Board Post: Our family's earliest member, James Dunn (ca. 1715-1803) of Chelmsford, Massachusetts, was, by one account, "came from the southwest of Scotland, and that he (or his descendents) had been thrown out of Ireland (someone guessed perhaps because of some criminal activity)" and, by another account, "James was a stowaway on a ship from Ireland when he was discovered -- taken to the captain for prosecution -- a childless couple name of Dunn on board offered to take him, adopt him, as soon as an arrangement could be made in the port of Boston to save him from punishment; or (from the same branch of the family, that ”James Dunn was shipwrecked on the Massachusetts (?) coast and a similar story about being taken in by a family named Dunn." My DNA does not appear to match with any other Dunns in the familytreeDNA.com project, perhaps strengthening the possibility that James was adopted by a Dunn family... This James and Elizabeth Dunn had 8 offspring: Joseph (b.1737), John (1739/40), Benjamin (1743), Betty/Betsey (1745), Rebecca (1748), James (1751), William (1754), and Sarah (1759). Does this stowaway James "Dunn" ring any bells with anyone??? Please share any possible ideas with us. Thanks

Surnames: Dunn Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/hlT.2ACEB/3659.1 Message Board Post: We've had a story; but don't know how accurate it is. The story refers to a Marion Joseph Dunn who stowed aboard a ship to America (whether from Ireland or England, it's not for sure). They said he was about 10yrs old at the time. I think that this man is the father of my John Dunn ,b. 1780,VA (no, not the one you have been talking about from Tenn... although, my John Dunn DID live in White Co.Tenn, for about 10yrs or so, and is listed on the 1830 White Co.Tenn census. Mine went to KY,not AR.) But, Marion Joseph, who was b. in the mid 1700's, may not have been the immigrant; but, it may have been his father or gr.father.Time period would be the 1700's. Not for sure if Liverpool would have been the port of departure, or if it was Londonderry or Ballymena, which is where we think they may have been living, after leaving (or being sent out of.) the border lands of Scotland. For the record, our group has lots of the same first names as your group did.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/hlT.2ACEB/6114 Message Board Post: ...just came across a very interesting story concerning Miss Mamie DUNN and Martin LOUTHAN her brother-in-law; & Miss Mamie DUNN's sister, Mrs T S GARLAND. This article is dated: 07-29-1915. I would be very curious to know whether the details of this story were reported in a book by Frank LOUTHAN, brother of Martin. Martin LOUTHAN was a Sheriff in OK and made a name for himself. He was also sent to Washington DC, at this time. Apparently, Miss DUNN was held against her will. She had an aunt that had passed away in MA. If you are researching any of these lines and are interested in the story (legal case), then please email me. I am a transcriber and volunteer, and happened upon this story during some of my research. Smiley :-)) Pink, OK OK RAOGK Volunteer

    1. [Dunn] Mercy Dunn m Peter Marlett
    2. Mercy Dunn, daughter of Sarah (Fitzrandolph??) Dunn was born in New Jersey, ca 1770. Mercy married Peter Marlett ca 1786. Mercy is named in the will of Samuel Fitzrandolph (died 1788 in Sussex County, New Jersey) as Marcy Marlett, daughter of Sarah Dunn. >Is Sarah Dunn the sister of Samuel Fitzrandolph? >Who is the spouse of Sarah and the father of Mercy? Any thoughts regarding these questions would be most welcome. There were several Mercy Dunns but some, by age, can be eliminated as the spouse of Peter Marlett.
