Surnames: Dunn, Freeman,Graham, Browning,Duncan,Daggett Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.dunn/4029.3.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am a direct descendant of John Benefield Dunn and Mary Ann Duncan. There seems to be confusion on the John B's. Was there two John Benefield's? I have info on John Benefield and Prudence Bell Freeman, and John Benefield and Mary Ann Duncan. I got the name Ida, from the Tatum genealogy on Rootsweb.com. All the rest of the Dunn genealogy from Lily Ray Starks, Compiler, The Drury Dunn Descenants. "Ida" Prudences' mother was Phoebe Bell Stokes. Drury Dunn married a Benefield, Possibly Charlotte. Couldn't find much info on the Benefield's. Apparently we have the same direct ancestors but of a different line.

    1. [Dunn] BURR, HERBERT HOOVER; Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient WW II
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Burr Classification: military Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.dunn/6124/mb.ashx Message Board Post: BURR, HERBERT H. Rank and organization: Staff Sergeant, U.S. Army, Company C, 41st Tank Battalion, 11th Armored Division. Place and date: Near Dorrmoschel, Germany, 19 March 1945. Entered service at: Kansas City, Mo. Birth: St. Joseph, Mo. G.O. No.: 73, 30 August 1945. Citation: He displayed conspicuous gallantry during action when the tank in which he was bow gunner was hit by an enemy rocket, which severely wounded the platoon sergeant and forced the remainder of the crew to abandon the vehicle. Deafened, but otherwise unhurt, S/Sgt. Burr immediately climbed into the driver's seat and continued on the mission of entering the town to reconnoiter road conditions. As he rounded a turn he encountered an 88-mm. antitank gun at pointblank range. Realizing that he had no crew, no one to man the tank's guns, he heroically chose to disregard his personal safety in a direct charge on the German weapon. At considerable speed he headed straight for the loaded gun, which was fully manned by enemy troop! s who had only to pull the lanyard to send a shell into his vehicle. So unexpected and daring was his assault that he was able to drive his tank completely over the gun, demolishing it and causing its crew to flee in confusion. He then skillfully sideswiped a large truck, overturned it, and wheeling his lumbering vehicle, returned to his company. When medical personnel who had been summoned to treat the wounded sergeant could not locate him, the valiant soldier ran through a hail of sniper fire to direct them to his stricken comrade. The bold, fearless determination of S/Sgt. Burr, his skill and courageous devotion to duty, resulted in the completion of his mission in the face of seemingly impossible odds Source: http://www.army.mil/cmh-pg/moh1.htm BURIAL INFORMATION Location: Independence, Missouri Cemetery: Mount Washington Cemetery Born: 1920 St. Joseph, MO Died: 1990 Additional Information and cemetery monument photo: http://www.homeofheroes.com/gravesites/states/pages_af/burr_herbert.html Note: This is not my ancestry. Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.dunn/3833.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I noticed your posting on David Dunn of Craven County with a will dated 1768. I've been researching these Dunns for awhile because I'm fairly certain my David Dunn connects there. I think this David who died 1768 was a brother of Newman Dunn of Craven. This will was administered by a younger David Dunn (son or nephew), and the older David gave his land to this younger David. I think the younger David in the 1768 is the one who died 1785 Craven (have a copy of his will), leaving a widow Katy Dunn (Catherine Franck Dunn probably). Another younger David involved with that 1785 David Dunn estate is most likely a son of William Dunn (the only younger David left there after 1785) and grandson of Newman Dunn. This youngest David I "think" is the one that married Anne Custis and is later the David Sr. in Twiggs Co GA 1818 with David Jr. along with some others (William, James, Jesse Dunn). Let me know your thoughts here. Maybe we can compare notes. Thanks, Gary

Surnames: Dunn, Freeman, Barham, Day, Graham, Robinson, Tatum, Baugh Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.dunn/4029.3/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I was wondering where you found the middle name of Benefield for John Dunn. And where you found the first name of Ida for Prudence. Prudence was christened Prudence on 21 Apr 1754 & recorded this way in the Albemarle Parish Surry Co VA records. If her first name was Ida, she would have been entered in Albemarle Parish records that way. John Dunn died after 28 Oct 1782 (probably Wake Co NC), the date of his will & before Mar 1784 when his will was probated in Wake Co NC. Have copy of his will. Prudence m/2 James Barham on 20 Oct 1785 Wake Co NC. Have copy of their marriage certificate. They had 6 children. It was Prudence & James Barham who moved to Logan Co KY. Prudence died 1 Jan 1815. After her death James Barham moved around. He moved to Calloway Co KY, Henry Co TN, Stoddard Co MO & finally to Greene Co MO where he died in 1865. I believe that Prudence & James Barham moved to Logan Co KY around 1810. This is when a bunch of families, Barhams, Days, Dunns, Grahams, Robinsons & Tatums & others moved from NC to Logan Co. John Dunn & Prudence Freeman did have a grandson named John Benefield Dunn who was the son of Lewis Dunn & Dorcas Graham. They had another son named John B Dunn who was the son of Edwin Dunn & Tabitha Baugh. Hope this.

    3. I am interested in your John Dunn b. 1780 VA, that lived in White Co., TN for about 10 yrs. & was listed on the 1830 White Co., TN census. My g-g-g-grandfather (John / James) Allen Dunn, b. abt. 1802 VA, married Katherine Lafever in KY in the 1820's. They had 2 children born in KY before moving to White Co., TN in the late 1820's or early 1830's. I do not know the name of his parents or if he had any siblings. He died sometime between 1850 & 1860, probably here in White Co. as Katherine is still living in White Co. in 1860. If any of this sounds familiar, I would like to exchange info with you.
