Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.dunn/6130.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: According to family notes my ancestor, Dominic Dunn, came from Dublin area to Chicago area about 1845. There he married Ellen (nee O'Dell) and moved to Traverse City, Michigan. Letters came from Dominic's family back in Ireland with the last name spelled "O'Dunne". It appears that Dominic shortened and Americanized his last name to Dunn. I have no knowledge of Dominic's parents names or siblings. His wife, Ellen, was widow with two children.

    3. Any of your Dunns that went to Wisconsin that you know of? Particularly, have you run across a William Arthur Dunn? I have been researching this line, with 2 other cousins, for about 15 years and while I have some facts, like they came into the country in 1850, (William was 15 years old then) - it seems like he dropped out of the air and landed in WI. I am having a VERY hard time getting the line back from before him. Dates & names were taken from Bolling Dunn's Bible. Bolling Dunn was son of Edwin Dunn & Tabitha Baugh. I have typed copy of John Dunn's will. It was recorded in Wake Co NC Bk A pg 168 4th day of May 1784. It was written 28 day October 1783. It lists the following heirs: son Edmond (Edwin) Dunn, son Lewis Dunn, daughter Winey (Livinia); dau Betse (Elizabeth), & wife Prudence. I'm not sure who Shadrack's parents were but they weren't Prudence Freeman & John Dunn. I looked at what I think is your entry on Ancestry World Tree. The only child listed under Prudence Freeman & John Dunn that is correct is Edwin Bolling Dunn b 29 Mar 1775. I'm not sure Bolling was his middle name. I have copies of Bolling Dunn's Bible pages. And pages from Thomas Graham Jr & Elizabeth Dunn's Bible. I'm sure Bolling Dunn wouldn't have forgotten so many uncles & aunts if Shadrack & his siblings were his uncles & aunts. And that John Dunn would have mentioned at least some of them in his will if they were his children. As far as I know John Dunn was only married once to Prudence Freeman. In Bolling Dunn's Bible, he wrote his Grandfather John Dunn's mother was a Benefield. And that his Grandmother Prudence Freeman Dunn's mother was a Stokes. Some researchers say John Dunn's father was Drury Dunn. But I haven't seen any proof of this. There were Dunns in Surry, Sussex & Brunswick Co's VA in the early 1700's. I'm sorry I can't help you more. But I hope this does help you some.

Surnames: Dunn, Benefield, Baugh, Freeman, Duncan, Barham, Graham, Jones, Imes Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.dunn/4029.3.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: There were two grandsons of Prudence Freeman & John Dunn named John B Dunn. One was John Benefield Dunn son of Lewis & Dorcas Graham Dunn. The other John B Dunn was the son of Edwin & Tabitha Baugh Dunn. We think this 2nd John B Dunn's middle name might have been Baugh, no proof on this. This 2nd John B Dunn was a minister. There is a little info on him in "A History of Kentucky Baptist, from 1769-1885" by J H Spencer 1886-reprinted by Church History and Archives, 1976, Lafayette, TN, Gasper River Assn. Logan Co-this info can be found on RootsWeb under Logan Co KY. Some have this 2nd John B Dunn's wife as Eliza Jones, who might have been the dau of Phillip Jones. This John B Dunn signed the Rev War Pension Paper for Phillip Jones, making us think his wife was a daughter of Phillip Jones. Others researchers think his wife's name was Eliza Imes. Anyway this 2nd John B Dunn moved to Gentry Co MO in 1858 & where he died in 1884. His death was published in the Russellville KY paper since his son M I/J Dunn was the coroner there. It was also listed in Gentry MO Deaths 1868-1910, pg 29. Rev. John B. Dunn, b 21! Jan 1803 Stokes Co NC, d 3 Oct 1884, apoplexy; lived Logan Co KY, to MO in 1858, mar 1823-10 children. Bur not listed. I just don't know where researchers got the first name of Ida for Prudence. If that had been her first name she would have been christened that. Yes the Dunn Bible states that John Dunn's mother was a Benefield. I have seen his middle name as Edmond, Edward & Benefield. He signed his will as John Dunn. I have a copy of part of Lilly Starks' The Drury Dunn Descendants. My 3rd cousin L Laird of KS sent it to me. She pointed out some mistakes in this. I will have to hunt this letter out. L Laird also has spent many years researching her line which is also the same as yours. Her line comes down thru John B & Mary Ann's daughter, Amanda Dunn Sears. I am a direct descendant of Charles B Duncan (brother of Mary Ann Duncan Dunn) & his 2nd wife Louisa A Howell. Also a direct descendant of Prudence Freeman & her 2nd husband, James Barham. Prudence Freeman & John Dunn's daughter, Lavinia mar Rev. Daniel Barham, a cousin of James Barham.
