    3. Any info AT ALL on a Dunn family bible, belonging to decendants of James (NMN) Dunn,(1734-1809) of Abbeville county,(old 96th district). Last known in hands of Cornelia Jane Richey (wife of James Howard Dunn),who died in Bamburg,S.C., in 1925. She left the bible in the hands of son, MARTIN GOVAN DUNN, who married LOU BLACKWELL who apparently had prev children, and who may live in Bamburg, or nearby areas under married names, , and may very well have possession of the Bible. Govan died after 1950. Both he and Lou are buried in a Bamburg cemetery. Govan had no children. I donot want the Bible unless they want me to have it. But I would like to see it and extract information from it. Many thanks-Jack Dunn. It was formed from Clay County and Nelson is its present county seat. The history of the county as part of the state of Nebraska begins with the Great Trail era. The Overland Route from Saint Joseph, Missouri to California entered Nebraska in Jefferson county and passed through Nuckolls County along the course of the Little Blue River. Though settlement began as early as 1858, this area was at that time on the cutting edge of the frontier. The threat from the First Americans was great and reached a peak with the Great Raid in August 1864. By 1866 all Whites had been driven from the county, but by 1870 settlers were returning in numbers. In June of the next year the organization and first election took place. Elkton was the first county seat. In the election of 1873 the county seat was centralized in Nelson. Superior, located in the souther! n part of the county is the largest town and was surveyed in 1875. Saint Stephens, located in the northwestern portion of the county, was the first church established in the county. NEBRASKA STATE JOURNAL, LINCOLN, SUNDAY 5 JUNE 1887 p 10 Superior Situated in Nuckolls County - On the Burlington & Missouri Railroad - One Hundred and Twenty-two Miles from Lincoln - Population Eight Hundred. Nebraska is a state to be proud of. In general intelligence, patriotic aspiration and pure hospitality her citizens are not surpassed by any people on the face of the earth. Though eminently an agricultural state, yet her natural resources afford wide scope for diversity of industry. No section of the state combines those things desirable in climate, soil and water in a more satisfactory a degree than the southern section of the state and notably so the Republican valley. This valley comprehends an extensive area of most fertile agricultural county and within its bounds is limitless wealth in soil and water power. The city of Superior is located on the Republican river in this valley and at the junction of the Denver & Kansas City branch of the Burlington & Missouri railroad and Missouri Pacific railroad from Achison. This risi! ng city of less than a dozen years of history has assumed the proportions of a well organized city of the second class. Its location is invitingly beautiful and healthful. Good judgement in latting the city with broad streets and beautiful avenues, now adorned with shade trees, together with much good taste displayed in the many fine residences, supplement nature in making it the most beautiful city of the valley. It is greatly to its advantage that the real estate of the town is not owned by speculators or foreigners, but by residents who dispose of it at reasonable figures and are able to offer substantial inducements to a desirable class of citizens. Superior is the commercial center of a large area of rich producing country. Its annual volume of trade amounts to three quarters of a million. Three substantial banks, two lumber yards, eight general stock stores, three drug stores, two hardware, four millinery, also some heavy stocks in exclusive lines. The usual other lines of commercial trade are represented with greater or less capital As the city is growing, new opportunities and openings for men of means and western business grit may be found in the various avenues of trades. This is the distributing point in southern Nebraska for "The Denver Live Stock company," a syndicate of ample capital, to furnish the great corn districts of southern Nebraska thousands of feeding cattle, as well as the Denver market with excellent beef. Local transactions in the live stock amount to one million dollars annually. A capital of one hundred and fifty thousand is employed in the grain business. The Gutherie Brothers' famous roller mills are located here with a water power capacity of five hundred barrels per day. Brick yards with most improved patent kilns have a capacity of one and a half million per annum. A fence factory, glove factory, wagon and carriage factory, windmill factories all do a prosperous business; church denominations are well represented while good schools are a source of public pride. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Lyman, McKay Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.dunn/6138/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Lyman, McKay, & Dunn Families of Waterford Twp, Erie County, PA I have tried unsuccessfully to find the father of Benjamin Lyman Born 1834 in Waterford Twp, Erie Co., PA. All the genealogists have attached him to a Prussian Lyman family in Waterford Twp full of Benjamin's and William's. This is not a match for this William (?), Father of Benjamin Lyman. Mary Jane McKay b-1813, Daughter of James Montgomery McKay and Jane Underwood. Born in Waterford TWP. We are confident she married a William (?) Lyman about 1830 in Erie County. William(?) was born about 1800 and died between 1833 and 1838 in Erie Co. William (?) and Mary Jane McKay Lyman had two sons, William G.(B-abt1831) and Benjamin (B-1834). Both sons were born Waterford Twp, Erie Co, PA. William(?)Lyman died between 1833 and 1838. Mary Jane McKay Lyman then married Thomas Dunn (first wife Nancy) born 1808, son of Oliver Dunn and Rachel Taylor. They had 5 children after 1840 in Erie and Monmouth, IL. I have tintypes of many of the McKay and Dunn relatives and the two Lyman's. Because of the many notations in Erie County genealogy and history of the Prussian Lyman's I am unable to track William (?) to his lineage. I have tried to connect him to the Lymanville, PA group and the Lyman's of New England with no success. Any help would be appreciated.

    1. Re: [Dunn] Mary Polly Dun of Ky ca 1800
    2. Hello Don, I don't necessarily recognize this particular line. But I come from the James Dunn (1725 - Ireland) / Martha Long family that came here in the mid-1700's, and there are a lot of the same family names as in your listings here. But then it seems that 'every' male from Ireland had these names. LOL They settled in VA and then moved to KY. My particular line then went to Indiana. One of their sons, Samuel DUNN (married to Eleanor (Elinor) BREWSTER) had two daughters who married Maxwell men. One was Sarah DUNN(b.1776) who m. John MAXWELL. The other was Mary DUNN (b.1788) who married a Dr. David MAXWELL. I don't know anything about these women except that they are the daughters of my 4th GGrandfather, and siblings to my 3rd G.Grandfather, John Dunn. :) There is a book called, 'Maxwell History & Genealogy' by Florence Wilson Houston that you may be able to access at one of your local libraries or genealogy societies. :) I have not read the book, but it has been referenced in some of my research for my Dunns. :) Barb :) Surnames: Dunn, Brewster, Groat, Harding, West, Guinn, Newton, Bettis, Red(d), Williams "Share knowledge as if it is a living entity, for in fact, it is.
