Do you know a male Dunn descendant (current last name being Dunn) of any of these Gatewood Dunn or Waters Dunn individuals (or one of their known male Dunn siblings)? I'd like to contact him about doing the YDNA test to see if it matches with others (including my Dunn line) out of Northeast VA 1650-1700 and Wayne/Dobbs/Johnston/Craven/Pitt NC 1730-1800. Mine was later in Twiggs/Houston Co GA 1810-1830 and a YDNA matching Dunn line was in Pulaski Co GA 1830s. Gary Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I wish I had known your date for DUNN Reunion. My parents live in Ozark AL. We now live in Utah-- I need abt 3 weeks lead time to get a plane ticket. I am very much interested in the Ala DUNNS because my 2ndgrtgrpa John DUNN (b. 1845 TN) lived in Ala and fought in an ALA regiment in the Civil War. His left eye was shot out and his niece said his nickname was leather-eye. I am off his only son, John Wm DUNN born in Naylor ARK. My father in Ozark is 81, will not listen to me--but maybe you can convince him to contribute his DNA so we can find what DUNN line we descend from? 1. Re: [Dunn] Willie Bea Chaudron Dunn
    2. Hi Penny! The name Chaudron is of French origin. My great x 4 grandfather came to America from Santa Domingue after the insurrection. He started out in Philadelphia and was given a land grant in Alabama. He had oodles of kids and they had oodles of descendents, which are spread out all over the country. Now my grandfather married a creek woman from the Atmore Alabama area they had two boys and two girls. One boy and one girl were dark like their mom (my dad was dark). The other boy and girl were light like their dad. It is the lighter aunt who married a Dunn. There was a lot of intermarrying back in 1800's through the early to mid 1900's. The Indians intermarried so they would not be removed. There is a good chance you have native heritage. Good luck on your quest. :) Kim -------------- Original message from "Nikoli McCracken" <tursiops@cccomm.net>: -------------- I have been trying to find my maternal grandmother, Edna G. Dunn. 3. Thanks, doesn't sound as though you can help. But I love your email name. I'm a dolphin freak myself - that's where I got "tursiops" - tursiops truncatus is the Latin Scientific name for an Atlantic bottle-nosed dolphin. And I don't think a lot of hackers know either Latin, OR science. And I was a scuba diver for ten years in Hawaii. Now, I'm an old lady, way too old to go do that again. Though I'd give it a go if I could. 1. Re: [Dunn] Willie Bea Chaudron Dunn
    2. Trying to chase this last uncovered branch of the family. Does anyone on this list have a Willie Bea (Chaudron birth name) (??Hutchinson??-adopted name) Dunn in their family tree? She would have been born around 1930, 1931 or so? She was born and lived in Ala has a child/young woman. She was also in an orphanage in the 30's-40's. She attended Murphy High School, class of 1946 I believe. Someone said they thought she had been adopted as a young teen by a school teacher by the name of Hutchinson? The last I have of her whereabouts, was on my grandfather's obituary in 1953. It said she was then living in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. She was my dad's sister - He passed away in 1970 - My mom said she recalled meeting this sister in the 1950's while living in New Orleans. Seems she was married to a man who had something to do with the film business. One story mom tells is that this sister had recently had an exceptionally large baby. So if any of this rings a bell, or if you know of this Dunn, would love to hear from you. Thanks all! 2. Nikoli McCracken
    3. I have been trying to find my maternal grandmother, Edna G. Dunn. She married Jess I. Miller. She is shown in the 1900 census as living with a grandmother in Mississippi. I pinged on the Rousseau name because there is a chance my grandmother was Cajun or Creole. My mother told me Edna had fair skin, green eyes, and very dark hair. In addition, my mother told me that when Edna was angry, she cursed at her daughters in French! So, that's why I have been pursuing the Cajun/Creole idea. In that 1900 census, she was listed as a toddler, perhaps age 2 or 3. By the 1920 census, she was married and living in Hamlin Texas with her husband. My aunt Marguerite had alrady been born, probably a year or so before. My mother was born 18 May, 1920, so the census must have taken place before her birth. Yet the census for Hamlin TX clearly lists her birth place as Mississippi. I don't know where or when she met my maternal grandfather, or even when they were married, but probably about 1918. By 1930, the family lived in Long Beach CA. My mother told of she and her sister surviving the 1933 earthquake in Long Beach, by seconds. Both girls ran out of the building, just as it fell down behind them! I only have my Miller family back to the gr.grandparents. Miller is such a common name, tracing it is difficult. I only know he remarried, and died sometime in 1970 in Sterling CO. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. The Chaudron name also suggests a French connection of some sort. Possibly, Cajun or Creole. Oh, yes, my mother told me that once, she found a picture of an Indian couple in a trunk. When she said "Mommy, who are these people?" her mother got furious, screamed at her in French again, and boxed her ears. Sniffling, she asked her father who they were. He chuckled and said "Those are your grandparents, honey." See why I think of the Cajun/Creole possible connection? Both sides married with Native Americans sometimes, and often, even among black persons. Whatever my heritage, I would not be ashamed or upset. I just want to know. Very truly yours, Nikoli A."Penny" McCracken tursiops@cccom.net ----- Original Message ----- From: birdnerd@bellsouth.net To: gc-gateway@rootsweb.com ; dunn@rootsweb.com ; DUNN-L@rootsweb.com Cc: gc-gateway@rootsweb.com Sent: Sunday, April 12, 2009 8:17 AM Subject: Re: [Dunn] Willie Bea Chaudron Dunn Trying to chase this last uncovered branch of the family.
