Hello again! I've received some copies of christening recorded in Old Kilpatrick in the early 1700s and have noticed many end with the witnesses names followed by "eq". Am I correct to assume this denotes "esquire"? What exactly would the title have meant to a late 17th-early 18th century Scot? A land-owner? The son of a knight? ??? Of course maybe I'm way off base and it was the cleric's initials. :) LOL
