You won't find New Monkland on a modern map. It is the name of a parish which consists mainly of the town of Airdrie, but also a multitude of smaller villages, such as Glenmavis, Greengairs and Rigghead. The northern boundary of New Monkland parish is the southern boundary of Cumbernauld parish. I'm 44 year old and spent the first half of my life in Airdrie and the second (married) half in Cumbernauld.
