I am researching the McKENZIE family of Church St., Dumbarton. Father Kenneth died 1870. Mother Margaret HARRE died 1875. Their 4 children then lived with various relatives in Renfrewshire, and Renton (DBN) but the 10 year old daughter PRISCILLA McKENZIE seems to have been sent to Australia where she died in 1890 after 15 years in that colony. Can anyone help with any suggestions as to how a 10 year old would have been sent to Australaia at that time? Were there any children's homes or philanthropic organisations sending children as early as 1875? She is not recorded as an assisted immigrant in Australia. She was not sent by Quarrier's Homes.
