Greetings to the list! I am new to this list, and my list of surnames for Dunbartonshire is just the one name: DONNACHIE. My immigrant ancestor was John DUNNUCK. He left London in 1737, arrived in Baltimore, Maryland in the American colonies after the usual wretched trip. Family legend is quite firm about Scotland being his home county; he lived "on the banks of the River Clyde." DONNACHIE is the only Scottish name I have found that comes close to DUNNUCK/DUNNICK/DUNNOCK, the variations in the USA. A cousin traveled to Scotland in the late 1930's, reportedly found the ancestral home with the family tree showing John as a broken-off twig, on the banks of the River Clyde. Can anyone help?
