Hi there all ! I am researching the DICK family, millers (and grocers) of CROFTAMIE (WATER) MILL near Croftamie / Drymen. Can anyone tell me ( or speculate ) why this family should get a mention in a Trade Directory entry of 1900 (Slater's) for CARLUKE [ South Lanarkshire ] under the 'Millers' category ? I was working on the Dick family of CARLUKE - [ High Mill, Grain Millers and Millwrights / Engineers from 1797 ] when this entry popped up ! At first, I thought they might have something to do with DICK's BUSES [ operated as S.M.T. from post WW1 to 1940's - operated by R.B. Dick (Co. Manager) from garages in Carluke / Glasgow and elsewhere, but the I.G.I shows ... JOHN DICK marrying ELIZABETH JAMESON on 14 / 12/ 1822, in Kilmaronock Parish Their Son :- JAMES DICK marrying HELEN NEILSON on 16/11/1866 in Kilmaronock parish and JOHN DICK (son of James and Helen) born 13/10/1868 The Directory listed JAMES among the CARLUKE MILLERS as :- James DICK, (Grain Millers), Drymen Station At this time, a Tenant [ Thomas Rogerson] was operating the High MIll, Carluke, for the Dick family of Carluke. Any help / notes / family connections of this family and Carluke would be appreciated. GEORGE RUSSELL, The HIGH MILL TRUST, Carluke, S. Lanarkshire
