Hi Listers I have been offline for a month, so thought I would re-post my DAVIE names, just in case I have missed a posting. I am looking for information on: James DAVIE, who had the occupation of Silversmith in Greenock, Renfrew, Scotland during the early 1800's. I have not been able to find his birth record (could be anywhere in Scotland) or any record of his death. He married Elizabeth HALLIDAY on 21 June 1816 in Greenock. She was 33 at time of this marriage (her second), so it is quite possible that it was James DAVIE's second marriage also. They had 2 sons: (1) James born 2 April 1819, Greenock, married Jessie TAYLOR in Rothesay on 25 September 1851 and (2) Samuel Ewing born 14 July 1824, Greenock, married Catherine CAMPBELL in Greenock on 1 January 1852. I have been unable to find out any information on James DAVIE - he is not mentioned in the Greenock Census for 1841 or 1851, although his wife, Elizabeth is listed as his widow in 1851. All I have is that he was a Silversmith and is mentioned in the Pigots Directory for 1815. It is possible that Thomas DAVIE, also a Silversmith (married Agnes Aitkin in Edinburgh in about 1780) is James' Father as they were both Silversmiths in Greenock but I have been unable to find anything on this gentleman either, it appears he moved to Greenock from Edinburgh in the late 1700's. Any information on James DAVIE or Thomas DAVIE would be most appreciated. Janelle Canberra, Australia aurora@dynamite.com.au Researching Davie, Halliday, Barr, Taylor, Menzies
