I am trying to find the parentage of my Patrick (Peter in Canada) McAuslan(e). He was married in 1835 to Catherine Ewing of Cardross. They emigrated from Rutherglen, Lanark in about 1838. Since Row and Luss seem to be the home site of most McAuslans I speculate that Patrick lived there before moving to Rutherglen. The first child of this couple is Joseph. This seems an uncommon name in the McAuslans so have found a possible parent. Joseph McAuslane of Tomavoulin, married first Agnes McMillan, his servant and they had a daughter Mary born 1794. His second married was to Jean Wilson, a widow, of Easter Blarnearn in 1795. Her previous marriage was to Peter McFarlane in 1785. Joseph and Jean had three children: Jean b 1797, Robert b 1798 and Patrick b 1800. Robert didn't marry but don't know anything of Jean. The only other Peter or Patrick McAuslans were: James McAuslane and Ann Bissett had a son Peter b 1804 in Cardross. Peter McCauslane and Jean Marshall of Bonhill had a son Peter born in 1802. Even if I could eliminate some of these people it would be a great help. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Jean Broadfoot, 1024 Arnot Road, Ottawa, Ontario K2C 0H4 jeanb@magma.ca
