I have just noticed that in the 1841 census for Torosay, Argyll, where James was absent, his parents were housing one Alexander McDougal aged 20. Do you think these families were friends and that there was some kind of work experience going on? James spending time with the McDougalls and Alexander living with the McLeods? I don't know much about the history of these times. Do you know if that sort of thing went on then? I'll bet you wish you'd never responded to my message now!! Hope you'll stick with me though.
