James was born 15 May 1815 in Tiree, Argyll. He married Janet Thomson in Dunbarton, Dumbartonshire on 11 Dec 1847 and was a gardener. According to the 1861 census, his first child, Janet, was born in 1849 in Scotland. Elizabeth was born 27 Jul 1851 in Rafford, Moray and Jane Amelia on 26 Nov 1853 also in Rafford. The next child, William, was born on 31 Mar 1856 in Sussex, England as was his younger sister, Eleanora. So, although the census only gives the country where born, according to the dates it's likely that Janet M. was born in Dumbartonshire. Sometime between 1849 and 1851, the family moved to Rafford in Moray but I've been unable to find them in the 1851 census. They moved to England after Nov 1853 and before Mar 1856. I hope that helps.
