I would not be sure about his date of birth. the census returns are a bit dodgy. In the 1881 he has his birth as 1796, On the 1841 he is aged 25 and in 1901 he is 85 but he is definitely still alive in 1903 according to the trade directory, which lists the company And his place of residence. I have more faith in the directory than the census I was doing some rsearch in the Mitchell Library, earler today, and had a quick glance for the wire manufactures. I had a look through Glasgow Trade directories and Alexander ran the wire company since the 1820s He is listed in the directories from 1840 through to the early 1900's I have some records on the Rowat's who had the pickle company, but more on the Watsons. Margaret Watson married Roberr Rowat in Paisley 1850. It was their son, Dewar, who ran Rowat and co, until his death in 1931. His Mother, Margaret died in 1903. She was born in Paisley in 1826, Father, Dewar Watson, mother Elizabeth Muir. The Watson's were wine merchants in Paisley after moving from Errol in Perthshire.
