I am still searching for any info on the family of JOHN CARNIE/KARNEY/KEARNEY b. in Ireland. He m. SARAH McMICHAEL who was the daughter of M.S. McMICHAEL. Five known children were named JOHN DAVID, DANIEL, SARAH, BARNIE, and PATRICK. >From the registration of marriages in 1863, Sarah Carny aged 20 living on Cowgate in Kirkintilloch daughter of John Cairns listed as Boatman, m. ALEXANDER GEMMELL aged 19 living on High St. in Kirkintilloch son of John Gemmell listed as a tailor. An old letter dated 3 June 1882 with an address listed as Glasgow Rd. Bridges by Kirkintilloch, Dumbartonshire, Scotland signed John Carney to his son John David Karney who migrated on to the United States and settled in Hopkins Co., Tx., state that he is in very delicate health with a granddaughter, Sarah, looking after him. Another son, Daniel, is said to be a foreman over a factory in Australia. There is no word of Barnie. Sarah is in Greenock. Patrick and wife with a young daughter are residing in Hamilton. A letter from April 1910, Sarah K. Gemmell writes to her nephew in Tx. to invite him to visit her to pick him a nice scottish lassie. The return address seems to read 52 Johnscroft Ct., Greenock, Scotland. Can anyone tell me anything about these addresses? What exactly was a Boatman? I would so love to make contact with the family that I feel still resides in Scotland. John David Karney who migrated to the U.S. was my g grandfather.
