Hello all My Dunbartonshire interests are based around my McCALLUM family from Helensburgh (Row or Rhu parish) and earlier in Luss parish. They descend from Donald McCALLUM and wife Margaret MacFARLANE who had a large family mostly in Luss in the 1780s/1790s but with the youngest (Agnes )in 1808 in Row parish at somewhere called "Townhead of Stuck". Anyone know where this place is or was? Also looking for the location of a place in Luss parish which looked like "Coirechanagan/Coirecheanahan on the film of the parish register (1780s/1790s). Anyone know where this place is? Donald McCALLUM & Margaret MacFARLANE were living there when several of the older children were born. Children of this couple include: Duncan McCALLUM who married Christian CHALMERS in Row in 1840s - Christian was daughter of John CHALMERS and wife Margaret NIVEN of Roseneath - any information on this couple. They had at least one other child, Margaret CHALMERS who married Alexander McAUSLAN and had family in Row - one daughter married a McLACHLAN and had a farm in the 1890s near Shandon, Row parish.Very little in the records on this CHALMERS family apart from the marriage of the parents in Roseneath, and the later marriages of their daughters in Row. Has anyone come across them or know of any other children? Peter McCALLUM who married Christian McLEOD (daughter of Peter McLeod Tailor Adkinglas, parish of Lochgoilhead & Kilmorach) 1815 in Luss and had family there and in Helensburgh - Peter McCALLUM described in the OPR as tailor in Morlarach - anyone know where this place is likely to have been. Peter McCALLUM later had a drapery business in Helensburgh and a couple of his sons were also tailors/drapers. Does anyone have any information on this business. Parlan or Parlane McCALLUM - haven't found his birth records yet but from other information (family stories, death certificate etc) he is also a son of this couple - quite a large family in Helensburgh. Also looking for information on whether Donald McCALLUM and Margaret MacFARLANE of Luss etc are the same couple as the couple who were married in New Kilpatrick on 29 December 1780 and/or the same couple as the couple of these names who had a son Daniel baptised in New Kilpatrick. Donald McCALLUM, son of Duncan McCALLUM and Christian CHALMERS married Margaret CUTHILL, daughter of WILLIAM CUTHILL and Alison RUSSELL at Camus Eskan Farm in Cardross c1875 - one of Margaret CUTHILL's sisters (either ELLISON or Isobel) married another D McCALLUM some time after the 1891 census - any information on this couple? When Christian CHALMERS died c 1874, her death was registered by a cousin James CHALMERS of Helensburgh - I haven't been able to find a likely James CHALMERS on the census records so far (1871 or 1881) - has anyone come across him? Other names connected to this family through marriage to McCallums include ARROLL (Mary McCALLUM, daughter of either Peter or Parlan married an ARROLL) I also have a separate family of MacFARLANES/McFARLANES/McFARLANDS in Dumbarton parish c1770s/1780s with a daughter Martha marrying a John GREENHILL from Paisley in Dumbarton in the 1770s. They had a large family in Paisley.Any information on Martha and her parents/siblings? I have seen a number of census films, OPR for Luss, Row & Roseneath and have Ordnance Survey maps, both modern and reproductions of 19th century ones covering the Luss/Row area.
