Hi Everyone, I am turning to the list for some ideas on my brick wall. As I am not sure that I am barking up the right tree. My gg grandfather William Walter Anderson states on his marriage certificate in 1862 here in Geelong Victoria, Australia that he was 22 years old, born in Dumbarton Scotlandand and that his parents were William Anderson (Carpenter) and Catherine Mc Allum. His death certificate gives another story in that his parents are still listed as William Anderson (Sailor) and Catherine Mc Callum, his place of birth is listed as Glasgow and his year of birth works out the same as his marriage certificate. Now being a faily experienced researcher I have taken the marrige certificate particulars as being the most correct as it would have been William who supplied the information. I then checked the IGI and the Scottish Old Parochial Register on CD at my LDS to see if I could find a baptism record for William. The only record I could find is: William Anderson son of William Anderson and Catherine Kerr baptised 18th Mar 1840 at Bonhill I could not find a marriage entry between a William Anderson and a Catherine McAllum/Mc Callum but did find the marriage entry for William Anderson marrying a Catherine Kerr 17th May 1833 at Crichton, Midlothian William Anderson married Catherine Kerr I also found this entry in the IGI Marrige of Catherine Mc Callum to Alexander Kerr 9th April 1848 at the Gorbals in Lanarkshire. Any suggestions on why William would put his mothers maiden name as McAllum/McCallum on his marriage certificate if her maiden name was Kerr ? For this very reason I am not sure if I should be persueing this line or not. Any help most welcome and appreciated. -- Best Wishes Kim Pasquill Victoria-AUST Email: football@net2000.com.au
