    3. Hi Everyone This is my first request to the list and I am seeking the birth of my Grandfather. Altho the family are Irish and I have good contact with that branch I understand his parents moved and worked at the shipyards at CLYDEBANK, Dunbartonshire at which time he and perhaps other siblings were born. His name was JAMES BROWN although I understand the family at that time spelt it BROWNE and certainly that spelling is on the marriage certificate of his parents who were JOHN BROWNE and MARGARET BROWNE nee BLAIR His date of birth is FEBRUARY 27th 1870. His death certificate tells me born NORTH OF ENGLAND but declared on my mothers birth certificate as GLASGOW, SCOTLAND Siblings names who could have also been born at Clydebank were ROBERT JOHN, SAMUEL, THOMAS HENRY, and ELIZABETH, as I have the Irish info for the births of the rest of the family. My James Browne was brought up in Northern Ireland but must have spent some time in Glasgow as a young man as I have a photograph taken of him wearing a "Lodge Regalia" The Photographer was "Hampton Brothers" 2 WT Campbell Street, Glasgow. James came to New Zealand c before 1895, family history tells me he was a BOXER known as SMILEY. He married my Grandmother in January 1895 and I can track him from then. Any kind sole who can suggest where to start looking for his birth certificate would be most welcome. Thankyou Val rangval@xtra.co.nz
