Ryall Bush is in Sutherland NZ not Scotland. Ryall/Ryall in Scotland isn't a common place name and they are all farms. One in West Lothian, the other four in Norththumberland. http://geo.nls.uk/os6inch/ I'd post an enquiry on the NZ List, find his marriage and death then work your way back. If you are lucky you might find his immigration/ship he arrived on. Thomas Smellie and spelling variations, birth records in Scotland from 1860-1877 yield a possible 70 hits from all over Scotland.
