I can give you the line of your family way back, assuming one thing, which is that John Mclay, who married Maggie Stark gives his parents as William Mclay and Cecilia Sharp but in fact he was the illegitimate child of Cecilia Sharp born 19 May 1865 at Speedwell, Clackmannan, his mother and William only marrying in January the following year. William Mclay's name does not appear on John's birth certificate but he brought him up as his own and it is very likely he was his son. In a repeating pattern, John Mclay and Maggie Stark's son William was also illegitimate but his father, John Mclay,'s name is there on his birth certificate. Allowing for (my) human error, I have your earliest ancestors as John Mclay born about 1690 and Janet Hardie born about 1695. Their children were all born in St Ninian's.
