If that is your William, his parents were William McKinlay and Margaret Rutherford. Unfortunately, that info has not helped me as I hoped. If we can go back one more generation to a William McKinlay born c.1824 in Edinburgh then we will have hit "pay dirt"! So I will keep trying and let you know.
