Hello List, Is there anyone who has a WILLIAM McCARTER born about 1808 in their tree he was probably born in Dumbarton, dunbartonshire, Scotland. Why I am asking is that there is a William McCarter lodging with my 3X Great Grandfather John Fergus in the 1871 Census in Walker, Longbenton, Northumberland, England. And that William McCarter/ even spelt McCarthur/McCarther could be related to John Fergus by marriage, as John Fergus married Agnes McArther on 7, November 1834 in Dumbarton. And her fathers name was William McArther and her mothers name was Agnes Houston. I know Agnes McArther's siblings names were Susannah McArther born August 1816 Elizabeth McArther born in 1818. John McArther born August 1821 and Thomas McArther born April 1823. all were born in Dumbarton, Dunbartonshire, Scotland. John Fergus and Agnes McArther born August 1814 had a daughter named Elizabeth Fergus born between 1839 - 1841 in Glasgow or Dumbarton. Elizabeth Fergus married Andrew Campbell born in Kirkcolm, Wigtownshire, Scotland but then he probably moved to Dumbarton with his parents Alexander and Agnes Campbell nee Kelly, As Alexander and Agnes Campbell both lived and died there in 1864 and 1865. The Campbell family moved to Dumbarton, Dunbartonshire, Scotland between 1855 and 1856. My 2x great Grandparents were Andrew and Elizabeth Campbell nee Fergus they had moved to Hartlepool, Durham, England by 1857 where they were married on 9, November 1857 they had their first child a daughter named Agnes Campbell born about 1858 in Hartlepool, Durham, England. But by February 1862 when my Great Grandfather Andrew Campbell was born in Low Walker, Longbenton, Northumberland. They had another son named John Fergus Campbell born between 1864 - 1865 then another daughter Elizabeth Campbell born 1868 in Walker and then William McCarter/McCarther Campbell born between 1872 and 1873 in Walker. This has made me think was the lodger William McCarter who was staying with Elizabeth's father John Fergus meant to be McArther maybe and maybe Elizabeth's Grandfather or Uncle? The Lodger William McCarter was a Ships Carpenter born in Scotland about 1808? Could someone help me out with this Puzzle Please. Thank you in advance for any help i might receive. Kind Regards Pamela J Groves
