This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/WeC.2ACI/1354 Message Board Post: I am seeking volunteers for the FreeReg project. FreeReg is taking another look at the parish registers - births, deaths, marriages. Unlike the IGI and Scotlands People index, details other than names and dates from these records will be included in the database. This project covers England and Wales as well. I am currently working on baptisms for Nairn, Nairn and find that the father's occupation is listed on many records (helps narrow the playing field in my own family research). On a few, I have found relationships indicated. I am sure that is not the case in all parishes. My cousin is also a volunteer for part of Argyll and his records are not as detailed. I imagine that it depends on the parish. These records are on microfiche. You would need access to a reader or you can take the route that I did and purchase one on ebay relatively cheaply. A project of this size has never been undertaken before and much help is needed. This is for those of you who believe that our ancestry should not be for sale until we can make an informed decision on what we are purchasing...........an extremely worthwhile project!! This project does not pretend to take the place of verifying the records yourself, but will certainly narrow the list down. For more information: http://www.freereg.org.uk/ I am seeking volunteers for Nairnshire. If interested in other areas in Scotland, please contact Anne Fish, the Scotland Coordinator, at [email protected] Any takers for part of Nairnshire..........? Sherry for Nairnshire FreeReg.
