"P J Fraser-Tibbett" has been involved in many instances outside the framework of sharing information. These spammers are the ones that are soliciting names within Rootsweb groups. I would believe that it is fair to warn each other of their presence and true objectives. The rules have changed now we can freely interchange amongst our selves information that was traditionally indexed and sold. A scanner, a program such as Xerox Pagis and OCR'ring into EXCEL can make a list in minutes that we can share, these guys are struggling to find new ways to make a dollar(pound). They don't have the time or patience to sort the information from the archives they want us to the work for them to profit.
