    3. Dear James, Thanks for the information on Bonhill--I definitely need a geography lesson. Being from the USA is no excuse--I will study up. Thank you for setting me straight. Susan Bonhill is an area of the town of Dumbarton (technically a neighbouring village, but these days part of Dumbarton itself). Cumbernauld is about 30 miles away as the crow flies, so not unreasonable that people might not have moved from one to the other, but fairly unlikely as Cumbernauld is a new town, and until the mid twentieth century didn't really have much of a population. Dumbarton on the other hand is an ancient county town, and is much less prosperous now than it used to be. -- James Kemp see Alexander at http://www.ajkemp.org/gallery/ or my games at http://www.full-moon.info/ ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to DUNBARTONSHIRE-GENWEB-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message No virus found in this incoming message. My knowledge of US geography is appalling. More seriously, I find google maps are pretty good for coverage of most of the UK (and other parts of the world I've looked at). Generally if you put a village name in it gives you the right place, some village names are pretty common though and you can get a choice (e.g. Clachan, or Thornhill both have several in Scotland). With the satellite view on you can also see what the geography looks like, most of Scotland is still pretty wild (probably more so than it might have been when our ancestors left for the big cities and then in some cases the new world). -- James Kemp see Alexander at http://www.ajkemp.org/gallery/ or my games at http://www.full-moon.info/

    3. For those unfamiliar with this county or any other county in Scotland use these, they cover 500+ years and are "zoomable." http://www.nls.uk/maps/counties/index.html The Ainslie and Thomson maps include farm names. Cheers!!! Don Muirhead Port Dover, ON CA
