Someone known as Luis Sebastian Stuart Pennington <lsspe@yahoo.com> scribed the following at 10:42:46 on Thu, 1 Jan 2009, allegedly: >Hi James and Susan > >I have just found that Cumbernauld records for births and baptsims >start from 1688. >http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/sct/DNB/Cumbernauld/index.html Not bad. Cumbernauld as a settlement has been around a long time. At the start of the 20th century it was a one street village with a few hundred people living in it, although it did have a train station. But in the aftermath of the second war the government designated it as a 'New Town' and it became a satellite of Glasgow. It got special treatment and was heavily developed to massively increase its population to the extent that it is now the eighth largest settlement in Scotland. 2001 census put it at about 50,000 people. -- James Kemp see Alexander at http://www.ajkemp.org/gallery/ or my games at http://www.full-moon.info/
