    3. Hello List, Is there some kind soul that could look up the MI's for Dumbarton area Please. I am interested in finding the Transcripts of a grave, that is possibly not there anymore or damaged and faded. I am looking for any information on a Alexander Campbell Master Shoemaker who died on May 5, 1864 at 129, High Street, Dumbarton. on his death certificate it says he was the son of Andrew Campbell and Janet McNeish. Alexander was born between 1796 - 1798 in Kirkcolm, Wigtownshire, Scotland. But he and his wife Agnes nee Kelly and family moved to Dumbarton, Dunbartonshire after June 1855 but before July 1856. I would like to know if the inscriptions mentioned his children at all, and where they are buried maybe. Thank you in advance for any information I might receive. Kind Regards Pamela J Groves

    3. Have you tried IGI, searching using Scottish naming patterns? Scottish Naming Patterns. 1st Son named after Fathers Father 2nd Son named after Mothers Father 3rd Son named after Father 4th Son named after Father's oldest brother 5th Son named after 2nd oldest brother or mother's oldest brother 1st Daughter named after Mothers Mother 2nd Daughter named after Fathers Mother 3rd Daughter named after Mother 4th Daughter named after Mothers oldest sister 5th Daughter named after 2nd oldest sister or Fathers oldest sister That's not to say that every family followed them, but, when searching "blind", its often worth a try to get started.
