    3. Dear all This is my first message on your site, so hello to all. I am specifically looking for one relative. I am tracing my Murray roots. I found the family on the 1881 Census CDs. At the time of the census they were living in Birkenhead, Cheshire (now part of Merseyside). The census shows that one of the children (Alexander C Murray) was born in "Rutherglen, Cumberland, England" in about 1875. As those that can guess where I am leading will no doubt appreciate I had a heck of a job finding the location. Cumberland is in what is now Cumbria. There was no trace of Rutherglen there. Eventually I realised that I had found one of the CD transcription errors. The address should, of course, have read Cumbernauld (Scotland not England). I am basically writing to ask if someone can confirm my assumption about Cumberland/Cumbernauld. The Murray family I am tracing started out in Creich (in Sutherland according to the CD-ROMS) which according to my atlas is actually on Tayside, not in Sutherland. They then moved to Rutherglen and ended up in Birkenhead, losing the mother/wife of the family en-route. I have yet to track down exactly when she passed away. They actually started their journey before Creich, but that is another trail I have to follow. A long Journey in the late 1800s with six children. Grateful for the confirmation requested above. Grateful also for any idea as to where to look (via the internet) to find Alexander's birth certificate. Regards to all Doug (in India)
