    1. William Rooks and Euphemia

    3. I am having great difficulty in finding my ggg grandparents, especially Euphemia (nee Stewart). William, born about 1832, was from Yorkshire, but it's unclear whether Euphemia, born somewhere between 1833 and 1838, was from Newcastle or from Scotland. She had an older brother, Duncan Stewart, born about 1825, in Scotland. I have not been able to find marriage or birth registrations, although I have found information in the 1881 census (Sunderland, Co. Durham) and on the IGI. William and Euphemia had the following children: Robert born 10 May, 1855, in Hamilton, Lanarkshire (I have his birth registration but it is quite confusing) Ann, born 24 August, 1857, in Hamilton, Lanarkshire Alexander, born 13 November, 1860, in Bonhill, Dunbartonshire Sarah, born 4 April, 1862, in Cambusnethan, Lanarkshire Francis, born about 1868 in Sunderland, Co. Durham William, born about 1870, in Sunderland, Co. Durham It's possible, but unlikely I think, that Ann and Alexander were the children of a different William and Euphemia Rooks, but I am certain of all of the other children, and I know that there was at least one earlier child. It is intriguing to me that the IGI has another Alexander, born to William Rooks and Janet McKirdy on 16 March, 1861, in Bonhill, Dunbartonshire. Could this be the same William Rooks, I wonder. I would appreciate it very much if someone could look up the family in the 1861 census for Bonhill and Cambustnethan, if this isn't too much of a chore. Otherwise, if anyone could throw any light on this at all, I'd be delighted. Vivienne Simmons Toronto, Canada
