    3. I hope someone on the list can locate several placenames connected with my McCallum ancestors in Luss parish in the late 1700s/early 1800s. My ancestors Donald McCALLUM and his wife Margaret McFARLANE had a number of children baptised in Luss and I am trying to find the locations referred to in the Parish Register. The entries read: "1789 2 August Thursday Donald McCallum & Margaret McFarlane his spouse Craigentui had a lawful daughter baptised called Janet" - where is Craigentui? "1791 Monday 18 July Donald McCallum & Margaret McFarlane spouses in Aldchlay had a lawful son baptised called Peter" - where is Aldchlay "1796 Febry 3rd Donald McCallum & Margaret McFarlane spoused in Coirechanagan? had a lawful daughter baptised called Catherine" "1798 Wednesday 24 January Donald McCallum & Margaret McFarlane spouses in Coirechanagan had a lawful son baptised and called-------------------" (the child's name was left blank and I think this is my ancestor Duncan McCallum - a birthdate in early 1798 would fit ages in later records for Duncan). Other children for the same couple at Coirecheanagan or Coirechannagan include Isobel 21 August 1799, Donald 26 December 1800, and Janet 7 August 1803. They also had a son Parlan, probably also in Luss, birth or christening record not yet located but I have sighted his death certificate and he is listed in an old partial family tree for these McCallums prepared by an aunt many years ago. Where is Coirechanagan/Coirecheanahan? I also have, on July 22 1815 "Peter McCallum, tailor in Morlarach? (this name also a bit hard to read) in Luss parish and Christian McLEOD daughter to Peter McLeod tailor Ardkinglas Hill near Cairndon in the United Parish of Lochgoilhead & Kilmorach gave up their names for proclamation of banns in order to marriage. Married 25th currnt" (i.e. actually married on 25 July 1815) Where is Morlarach? Donald McCallum and Margaret McFarlane seem to have moved after 1803 to Row parish as I have also found the following entry inthe Row OPR film: "Agnes daughter lawful to Donalf McCallum & Margaret Macfarlane spouses at Townhead of Stuck was born January 27th 1808 and baptised Febry 14th do". Anyone know where Townhead of Stuck was? I have copies of a modern Ordnance Survey Map, Landranger Series No 56 1 1/4 inch to 1 mile scale covering the Loch Lomond area and also reprinted one-inch Victorian Ordnance Survey Maps published by Caledonian Books of Collieston Aberdeenshire, sheets 30 and 38 covering Luss and Row and surrounding areas but can't find these places on any of these maps. The names also don't appear in any of the gazeteers available here. I have also noted entries in the IGI (but not yet checked the parish register films) for a marriage of Donald McCallum and Margaret McFarlane on 29 December 1780 in New Kilpatrick and the christening of a Daniel McCallum to Donald McCallum and Margaret McFarlane in New Kilpatrick on 24 31 January 1789 - are the New Kilpatrick couple the same couple as the Luss couple of the same names? Any information on these McCallums and their descendants would be greatly appreciated. Lesley Instone Invercargill New Zealand
