    3. Hi Lesley and list, I know this is the Dunbartonshire list but this LECKIE name (below) is at Drymen and may fit in. The distance from Aberfoyle, Perthsire, down through Drymen to Dumbarton and Greenock is not far and I have found my McONIEs all living in those places at various times in the 1800s and they turn up being buried all over the place. # 191 at DRYMEN Churchyard (on top) John MITCHELL 13.11.1862 72, s WALTER 26.9.1851 32, s PETER 26.9.1859 32 (east side) w Janet LECKIE 14. 6. 1870 79; Walter M. w Janet MacONIE 2.11. 1891 73 (d. cert. says age 74 in Nov. 1891) This is a strange (shaped) reddish colour stone, (soft) it is an upright rectangle, (abt. 4 ft tall and 6-8 ft. long) with inscriptions along the top and on one side. Walter MITCHELL was a (wood) Forester m 1844 at DRYMEN and BUCHANAN, to Janet McONIE who was born ABERFOYLE and died at GARTMORE, Port of MENTEITH Perthshire. On the 1881 census Janet McONIE was living at Aberfoyle, she was described as 'married to' Walter MITCHELL (not noted as a widow) on the d. cert. signed by John MITCHELL, Son, Present. Parents of Janet McONIE were Andrew McONIE, Crofter and Belle (or a) McNAB both dscd. There is another LECKIE stone at KIPPEN, Stirlingshire which was at times included as part of Perthshire. # 164 KIPPEN Isabella LECKIE d 1830- 58 wife of Robt. EWING Esq. d PLUMPSTEAD 1799 32. I don't know anything else about the LECKIEs....yet. I suppose I should post this to the Stirlingshire and Perthshire lists too. regards, Maureen Kuzyk ms McOnie
