Hi Sandy I googled "Loch Lomond frozen" and here is a site with photos of the incident which says it occurred in the severe winter of 1947. Bet you are getting cold down there in Tassie. Just great up here at Winmalee Anne ----- Original Message ----- From: a.stevenson To: cathyppp@xtra.co.nz ; dunbartonshire-genweb@rootsweb.com Sent: Saturday, May 02, 2009 2:54 PM Subject: Re: [DUNB] Luss That's OK Cathy, my father lived at Luss as a young boy and walked on Loch Lomond when it froze over, I'd love to find out when that was as I don't think that would have happened all that often. My grandfather was a chauffeur and then became a bus driver so he travelled around this area quite often. My father was actually born at "Greenhill" Shandon, Rhu but they also lived at Gairloch Head and then seemed to stay in Johnstone, Renfrewshire for quite a while until my father married in 1942 and his father died there in the 1950's, Johnstone that is. Cathy, if you would like some photo's of Luss just let me know as we took a couple back in 2005 on our last trip back. Thank you to all who have responded to my query. We stayed on Inchmurrin in the middle of Loch Lomond for a week in 2001. It was so beautiful, and a great place to return to after a day's foraging around the family haunts. I'd love to go again but it's not likely that we will. I have a beautiful oil painting of Loch Lomond at Luss with Ben Lomond in the background. It was painted by my g g aunt in 1896. It's a good reminder of that great holiday. I remember visiting Rhu. Thank you for the translation of the names, Henry.
