Dear Les & Family & people of Dunbartonshire. Thank you for your thoughts. It is in deed a very sad time in OZ. The fires in Victoria are so bad it is really unbelievable to take in, that so many people have lost their lives every time you turn on the TV there are more to date 180 dead and 80 in Hospital they say it could go as high as 300 and all the wild life has been wipe out. I asked you all to pray for rain for Victoria, as there are still 11 big fires still burning. I lived in Queensland and the top half of my state has been flooded for about 6 weeks I wish I could send all that water to Victoria. I am sure that the daughter of your friend will be out of harm's way in Melbourne. Hello to all on the list. I am researching these two families, Crumbie/ Crombie and McGhee/ McGee from Bonhill, Dumbarton, and was wondering if any one has any information on them that might be able to help me please or some one might be researching the same families. I am looking for info on Daniel Crumbie and Mary Ann Morgan, they had a son Thomas Crumbie/ Crombie born 1841 not sure if it was in Scotland or Ireland but he married Susan McGee /McGhee in June 1867 at Alexandria Dumbarton and her parents were Patrick McGhee and Bridget McCourtnay this is all the information I have so far any help would be great. Have a great day Josephine Qld Australia.
I think its worth a mention that there are occasions when a line is scored through the very information one is hoping for; just as well to be aware. She came to America in 1864, per census returns, and probably already married to James Simpson. Death certificate gives her father's name as Archibald, but 'cannot be learned' for mother. I've tried the ScotlandsPeople site for more ,but the cost of guessing at all the Archibald Campbells in either the 1851 or 1861 census is prohibitive. Has anyone found anyone who might be a match? Hi ThuranX Good luck with your Archibald Campbell... It took me years to sort out my Campbell's in Dunbartonshire but after much work I got them all straight. I hate to be niggling but when you give her birthplace as Dunbarton, was it possibly Dumbarton? This can sometimes indicate the difference between the town and the county names. Also be warned that the birth date of 24 Nov 1844 is 18 months after the Great Disruption in the Church of Scotland when about half the ministers walked out and formed the Free Church of Scotland. Between May 1843 and January 1855 when civil registration started, more than half the births, marriages and deaths in Scotland were not recorded in the Church of Scotland Old Parish Registers be they Catholics, Mormons, Secessionists or Free Church etc. The other groups did keep registers but they were not kept uniformly and they were under no requirement to send them to the National Archives as the Church of Scotland Parishes were. Was there a sibling born before May 1844 or 1955 onwards... that could help you out? Also the 1841/1851/1861 census could be searched for both Mary and Archibald and compare the entry numbers for a match of father and daughter in the same entry or page. This is laborious but sometimes it works. I'm particularly interested in the Morison connection to the Millars.
