Hi: I have a friend who is searching for Liddells - she has an Agnes Medora Liddell born May 1864 in Iowa Hill, Placer County, California. I myself am working on my daughter-in-law's family and she has a Margaret Macauly who married William Allan. He was born in G,asgow, Lanark, Scotland in 1790. They had a daughter Catherine (born 1825 in Scotland) who married Alexander Arthur and had a son with the first name Macauley born 1850. If any of this clicks please get in touch.\ I have quite a few Arthurs from Scotland if anyone is working on that name. Hi Bill Some of my Jarvies were from Kirkintilloch including a John Jarvie born in 1815 to John Jarvie and Annaple Paul. He had some children to Agnes Liddle but they never married. I haven't come across the names you mention though, but there may be some connection that I haven't found. I am interested in the Jarvies of Kirkintilloch. Elizabeth Jarvie, married William Graham 1869. Elizabeth is the daughter of John Jarvie and Elizabeth Lang. Bill
Thanks Ann. I think I mentioned the family off list a few days ago. I understand this particular John JARVIE is something of a mystery man. I have put it in the hands of GROS. Hello Janet One of my major families is JARVIE. I have a number of John's but not one marying a Hope GILFILLAN. I do have one John GILFILLAN who married a Mary MCKENZIE. I'm happy to share what I have of my JARVIE line with you if you want to contact me offline at kakirk@bigpond.net.au Anne Kirk NSW, Aust. ----- Original Message ----- From: Janet To: dunbartonshire-genweb@rootsweb.com Sent: Monday, April 20, 2009 10:49 PM Subject: [DUNB] JARVIE/GILFILLAN I havent yet shared my recently found interest in the JARVIE name so thought I would as the list posts are not many these days. I know there are others who have the JARVIE name within their tree, without a main interest in the name, but I am hoping there might be others with a closer interest. I have searched and paid Scotland's People for deaths of John JARVIE from 1855 to 1885 and calculated their dob in case someone would like to check the list with me. Don and I have shared the information I have already found so I hope too he will forgive me if I repeat it here. My interest is in John JARVIE b abt 1825 and Hope GILFILLAN b abt 1827 who married on 20 December 1847 [Hope's parents were apparently William GILFILLAN and Hope ROBERTSON] John and Hope had 3 children, the first of whom was Elizabeth JARVIE b abt 1852 who married Robert ROWAT b abt 1830 whose 4th wife she was, on 24 July 1884 and by this date John JARVIE and Hope Gilfillan JARVIE were "deceased" As you will have guessed I am looking for the parents of John JARVIE b 1825. What I have found about this family paints a sad picture and story in itself. The other children of the marriage of John JARVIE and Hope Gilfillan JARVIE were: Frederick JARVIE b 22.1.1856 Robina JARVIE b 22.1.1856 Robina JARVIE died at 3 a.m. 6th February 1856 Frederick JARVIE died at 3 a.m and Hope Gilfillan JARVIE at 10 p.m. on 7th February 1856 and the entries of their deaths are on the same page and following the death of Robina on the previous pages of the Register. I cant find John JARVIE and Elizabeth JARVIE in the census in 1861; I had hoped I might find him with a sister or even his mother looking after Elizabeth whilst he went out to work; he was a journeyman Engineer apparently. I've not found them in the 1871 census either separately or together. I purchased 4 certificates of death of John JARVIE born about 1825 so if anyone is interested in those do let me know. I also contemplated he might have married and I was startled to find a possible event with a marriage of one John JARVIE and Christian GRAHAM whose wife predeceased him and he ended his days a Pauper in the Poors House. I realise that there are some sad stories to tell and find and that I am probably looking for a needle in a haystack but is there any one here searching JARVIE with a principal interest in the name?
