Hi ThuranX I understand your frustration with finding the right six year old Mary Campbell in the 1851 census. It took me a fair time before I sorted out my Campbell family in Dunbartonshire. One problem I had was that they were always moving back and forth across the Clyde between Dunbartonshire, Renfrewshire, Ayreshire, Lanarkshire and Rothesay in Buteshire. All these counties were just a few miles apart along the Clyde and river transportation was inexpensive. Your Mary's birth is just 18 months after the Great Disruption and birth/baptismal records in Scotland are very poor in Scotland from the Great Disruption of early 1844 up until statuatory registration started in 1855. There is less than a 50/50 chance that there is any record of Mary's baptism or birth. Searching the 1851 and 1861 census is not as difficult as you suggest since it is possible to narrow down the age and location of the search and most important include the firsts name of another family member ie your Archibald. If you send me your email address I will send you a 30 March 1851 entry for Greenock of a 6 year old Mary Campbell with a father, 44 year old widower Archibald Campbell. They are not indicated as born in Dumbarton but there is always the possibility of a error depending on who the informant was. It was the custom at that time for a woman to be with her Mother for the birth of her first child and not at her usual place or town of residence. Hi, If you have the birth certificate of Jessie born 1868 it will give you the date and place of marriage of the parents. The Scottish certificates have this information on them. Then go into www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk to look at the parent's marriage certificate if they married after 1855 in Scotland. Jay

Dear all I am looking for more proof in respect of the family of William Baine, a tailor, born on 12 July 1778 and shall be pleased for any help you can give me. I did build a family tree but think I may have lost some links. William lived in Greenock and married Isabel Kerr on 28 June 1811. They had children John born in 1816, William born in 1820, Walter born in 1827 and Jane born in 1829. I believe William Baine Snr was the son of Archibald Baine from Cardross (born 13 April 1740) and Margaret Baine from Cardross (born 1747) and that they married in Greenock on 16 January 1773. Her father was a James Baine born in 1704 in Bonhill and died in Cardross in 1756. Can anyone please confirm that I have the correct connections for the family please as I did find details of a different Archibald and Margaret marrying. I shall be grateful for any help you can give me. Yours sincerely Janet Baine

Hi Tom Your Mrs George Jennings might be Helen Newton born 1888/89 and died in Dumbarton 1970 at the age of 81. She was married to George Morton Jennings 25 May 1922 in Dumbarton. George died in Dumbarton in 1969 at the age of 74. If you ordered their two death certificates you might be able to find the names of their next of kin just 40 years ago. If you email me your email address, I will send you a .pdf copy of their marriage certificate.
