Author: GordonPertJohnson Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.scotland.dnb.general/2748.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am a retired professional librarian, and a part-time professional genealogical researcher. It just so happens I used to live in Clydebank when I worked there, and so am familiar with the location of Dalmuir (which is now part of Clydebank). I live near Wick, Caithness (right at the top of Scotland). The scotlandspeople website is a pay-by-credit site, and you buy a minimum of 6 pounds worth of credits to start you off, and you can top up your credits at any time (you can pay by credit card). If you want to use a local researcher - for a large number of certificates plus advice - I can recommend a researcher who works at Edinburgh. Gordon. 1. [DUNB] Ships Carpenter apprenticeships
    2. Cathy Dowie
    3. Hi everyone, My great grandfather, Duncan Macfarlan aged 17yrs was listed in 1851 Census of Dunbarton as a ship's carpenter apprentice. He was lodging with his elder brother, Lachlan in the home of Daniel McLean, ship's carpenter, in East Bridgend. I am told he served his apprenticeship with Mc Millan's shipyard for wooden ships and went to sea for 8 or 9 years. Is there a record of these apprenticeships? How old were boys who were taking up an apprenticeship of this nature, and how long did it take to complete it? Did they do part of their apprenticeship at sea? Thanks in advance for any information offerred. Cathy

His grandpa was David Morrison and he lived most of his life in Renfrew. His brother Noble married in Paisley and then moved to Bonhill/Alexandria in early 1900's. Noble had a daughter Frances who married,I think, a Daniel Trotter...? Noble also had a son Noble. However they did not call themselves Morrison but Morris!!! I see that happened in the previous generation too. Thank you Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I thought I'd have my usual look at the message board to see if there was anything new on it. Don't usually look on Dumbartonshire, but did tonight!!It looks like we may have a distant connection! I also have John Ferguson and Margaret Drummond on my tree!!If this is right they had a daughter Mary, who married my gt gt gt grandpa Alexander Wilson. They married in Paisley and one of their children was a Jane Wilson, my granny's granny!!! I found something already under the pedigree page on familysearch, which went way back on the Ferguson side. Have you seen it? Where do you live? This is always exciting when you link up with someone even tho' distantly related. Hope to hear from you, Diane Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. [DUNB] New Years Wishes
    2. To all my fellow searchers. As I take pause on a look back at the past decade. Wow it has been that long? The new millennium brought many new and different challenges. I find that doing my genealogy brings the inner peace of the challenges of everyday. Through quiet contemplation, diligent search, and a few bucks, lol, I have been able to find new cousins, make new friends, help others with old photos of past relatives. My hope for the next decade is that we all can make those links, tie the loose strings, and knock down brick walls stacked in front and make a path with those bricks that will lead those coming behind to our trees in our parks, where of course you will find us still filling out our pages. May the new years bring you all continued success, may you all find that missing document, photo, hidden letter, lost cousin with all the old photos with names and dates. May you all have inner peace in the journey, And enjoy the glow of missions accomplished. Here to all who search I will continue to post what ever I may find, in hopes that these goals and dreams can be accomplished. Peace be with you to what ever calling you follow. Happy New Year The past decade has been fun. Here's to many more to come Keith W Brown Indianapolis IN http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/b/r/o/Keith-W-Brown
