    3. Is it possible to have more meaningful Subject Descriptors as all the abbreviated subjects read the same, ie, DUMBARTONSHIRE-GEN When trying to read lots of mail it would help if these prefix's were omitted, to allow the real subject to be seen. Thanks Len

    1. [DUNBARTONSHIRE-GENWEB-L] BAXTER-JAMIESON-MacDONALD
    2. Dibby Allan Green
    3. Hi, there! Thanks Chester for this new list! The folks I have from Dumbartonshire are: 1. Jean/Jane BAXTER's parents are probably James & Margaret, and it may be a James b. 1750 who married a Margaret THOMAS. Don't have a birthdate for Jean, but probably 1780's. 2. Jean/Jane BAXTER married Thomas JAMIESON 1809 Kirkintilloch. Their children: Margaret JAMIESON b. 1809, Kirkintilloch David JAMIESON b. 1826, Kirkintilloch Mary Ann JAMIESON b. 1829 Kirkintilloch I have not yet located Thomas JAMIESON, but the marriage record had a third name which likely is the town of his location, poorly written, and the best I can make out is something like Dunubleau. No luck so far locating the right town or a Thomar (or likely parents David and Mary Ann). 3. Margaret JAMIESON married 1826 in Kirkintilloch Alexander MacDONALD who was from Thornhill, Perthshire. They had these children, all born in Kirkintilloch: ____ [name not given] MacDONALD b.1827 Jane MacDONALD b. 1829 John MacDONALD b. 1831 Elizabeth MacDONALD b. 1833 Margaret MacDONALD b. 1835 Thomas MacDONALD b. 1837 Alexander MacDONALD b. 1843 (d. 1913, Old Cumnock, Ayrshire) -- became United Presb. minister in Old Cumnock Robert MacDONALD b. 1846 Jean/Jeanie BAXTER MacDONALD b. 1849 (d. 1919, Denny, Perthshire) -- married Robert ALLAN, farmer in Old Cumnock--my gt-grandparents Janet MacDONALD b. 1852 My other interest in Dumbartonshire, and Kirkintilloch particularly, is thanks to that nice police officer who (last August, on my first trip to Scotland) questioned me about parking in the pedestrian zone (to which I was completely oblivious), educated me on those wiers white zig-zag lines on the street, and let me go without a ticket or fine!! 3. G'day, I am researching my ancestors from Scotland and am now positively back as far as:- William CALDER - Father Thomas CALDER, Mother Christina BLAIR, born 18 May 1831, Glasgow or Kirkintilloch, SCT; (the family were living in Kirkintilloch at the time of the 1841 and 1851 Census):immigrated 1852 to Ballarat, VIC, AUS; travelled between 11 Oct 1852 and Mar 1853 to Melbourne, VIC aboard the SIR WILLIAM MOLESWORTH which I understand was owned by the Christian and Temperance Emigration Society of Scotland. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year. HURU, Mike

    3. Dear Dunbartonshire List Members, You have my sincerest apology for not writing to each of you as you subscribed but for some reason the utilities page did not respond to the way it was set-up. A member subscribed but the way the message appeared I had no idea what list the person had subscribed so I had to write and ask an embarrassing question. When I learned it was to this list I then checked to see if the person was subscribed and to my shock here you were all registered in the List and Digest modes! Well this old man was shocked to find he had not personally welcomed each and every one of you. Please accept my apology. I trust since Debbie I believe was the first to post that someone will be able to assist her. I also need to have help and I have written to a member of this list but my system is not working as it should so perhaps the message did not leave the states. A member has asked if I knew the names of the cities and towns in Dunbartonshire and yes I do know some but not all. I believe it would be of assistance not only to the person who requested this information but myself as well. I would appreciate you sending the list directly to me and I will then post it one time to the list and place the names in the tag lines. Thank you all for joining the list and I wish you well in your search for descendants. This is the holiday season and I wish you and your families best wishes and good health and I remain, Respectfully, Chester H.
