    3. Hello All, This is a first time posting. We are seeking information on Daniel McFarlane and Florence/Flora McNabb. They were married November 16, 1839 in Cardross, Dunbarton. They had at least one son - John McFarlane born May 8, 1852, also in Cardross, Dunbarton. Obviously, we are missing some children. We would appreciate any information about these folks, especially other children, parents and dates of birth. Any assistance will be appreciated. Jack & Cheryl Butler

    1. MCVOY/MACABOY/MCABOY/MACAVOY/MACEVOY SURNAMES ca.1700-1800 SCT
    2. bonnijean =^,,^=
    3. Hello all. I am seeking information on the above surnames related to MCEVOY/MCAVOY/MCVOY in the country of SCT (I apologize I do not know exact location) for the time period 1700-1800. My ancestor was known as JOHN MCVOY or MACABOY/MACAVOY/M'EVOY but his actual first name may have been MARTIN, WILLIAM, THOMAS, or ALEXANDER. He was probably born ca. 1740's and family legend states that somethin unknown happened and he had to suddenly leave his homeland and went first to SPAIN. Apparently while there, courted a Spanish princess named YSABEL, or ISABELLA who was born around 1752 per her age on a FLORIDA CENSUS. "Supposedly" for her wedding dowry, she was given land in the area of MOBILE AL in SPANISH WEST FLORIDA in the US. This is just a family legend and unproven. There are some names, perhaps someone may recognize. Her name was YSABEL or ISABELLA and her other names were spelled differently on different documents so I am not sure which is correct. My line of the family had her listed as ISABELLA MELSA INDESA MCVOY (de MADRID?) and in the book, OUR FAMILY FACTS AND FANCIES,THE MORENO AND RELATED FAMILIES,c.1988 by REGINA MANDRELL, it lists her as YSABEL MELOS(,)ENGLISH on the 1784 PENSACOLA FLORIDA,USA census and her children are listed as MAKBOY. There were 4 children in 1784. Eldest was ANA MAKBOY, born around 1771 approx, JOAQUIN (aka JUAN/JOHN),b.ca.1773, (LOCATION OF ANA AND JOAQUIN'S birth is unknown to me), GUILLERMO(aka WILLIAM) said to be born AUG.29, 1776 SAVANNAH GA,USA, then the 4th child at that point was DIEGO MACABOY(aka JAMES) who "may" have been named MARTIN DIEGO (*his obit lists him as M.DIEGO MCVOY)and DIEGO was born "somewhere" in the country of SCOTLAND in 1781. The family came back to the US and JOHN MACVOY is listed in the 1783 early FLORIDA COLONY CENSUS INDEX on Ancestry.com. YSABEL & the 4 children are listed in the PENSACOLA,FL,CENSUS of SPANISH WEST FL in 1784, but not John. Mrs Mandrell says in her book that YSABEL remarried to a prominent businessman named MARTIN de MADRID after JOHN MACVOY died. But I am not so convinced. There are more children born after the arrival in Pensacola named MACABOY/MACVOY/MCVOY. One, ALEXANDER,b.1791 is buried with GUILLERMO in MOBILE AL. DOES ANYONE KNOW A STORY OF A SCT MAN NAMED MACAVOY (or any close spelling) marrying a Spanish princess (approx. 3rd tier from Crown) named YSABELLA? The timeframe of this marriage was probably around 1768-1770, probably in SPAIN. CONTACT: Bonnie McVoy Treon mailto:COOLTREONS@hotmail.com *(also, I am the listowner of 3 LISTS on ROOTSWEB.COM about the MCVOY, MCAVOY, MCEVOY surnames and we also have NEW GEN-CONNECT BOARDS) mailto:MCVOY-L-REQUEST@ROOTSWEB.COM mailto:MCAVOY-L-REQUEST@ROOTSWEB.COM mailto:MCEVOY-L-REQUEST@ROOTSWEB.COM *If interested in any of these lists (they all get about the same mail as I fwd. it so no one misses anything) please click above and just type the single word SUBSCRIBE in the subject and body areas (nothing else or it will bounce.) Thank you for any help in finding my ancestors. I thought IRE, but other family says SCT. They hail from the Dunbarton area of Glasgow, Scotland. My Great Great Grandfather was Duncan MACGREGOR of Kenmore, b. 10-16-1801. I believe his parents to be Donald MACGREGOR of Kenmore, b. April 15, 1781, and Margaret MACKERCHER. I haven't yet located Margaret's lineage. Duncan married Margaret DOCHERTY, b. Jan. 11, 1805 [of either Greenock Old or West Parish] on Sept. 19, 1829 in Bonhill Parish, COS. I believe Margaret DOCHERTY's parents to be Daniel DOCHERTY and Euphemia KEITH, both of the Glasgow, Scotland area. Their first son Alexander was born in Runton on April 18, 1830 in Renton. His christening was in May of that year in the Parish of Cardross. My Great Grandfather was John MACGREGOR, Duncan & Margaret's son, b. Feb. 21, 1838 in Renton. He married Margaret GOURLEY of either Glasgow or Edinburgh [records are incomplete] in Wisconsin, USA and their daughter Jennie Mae MCGREGOR was my Grandmother [married Cadwallader Joseph Edmund HARRISON in Wisconsin, USA]. As best I can determine, Duncan, Margaret, Alexander, John and the rest of the family emigrated to the USA in the 1860's, settling in an area called Nepeuskin, Wisconsin, Winnebago County, Northeast of Berlin, WI, in an area served by the Ripon, WI Post office. Duncan and Margaret are buried in the Nepeuskin Cemetery near there, and John & Margaret are buried in the Poy Sippi, WI [Waushara County] Cemetery. Interested in locating any of the MACGREGOR ancestors and/or descendents still in Scotland [as well as the DOCHERTY, MACKERCHER, GOURLEY, & KEITH ancestors], in tracing the MACGREGOR ancestry beyond Donald and Margaret, and in locating any descendents in the USA or wherever else they may have settled, since some of our family records indicate some of the family may have emigrated to Australia. Any and all responses much appreciated. With all good wishes, /S/ Rear Admiral Jim Carey Washington, DC --part1_8b4338a3.24fa110e_boundary--

Without a name of deceased it may have been for any relative, who died anywhere, in Scotland. Bodies were often shipped back to home towns for burial. I had a quick look today whilst I was at the Fam. Hist. Centre for an Aitken d. 1893 at Cumbernauld, there was only one male, Matthew AITKEN age 61 # 18 on the index for Deaths in Scotland, since the # is 18 it could have been Feb. or March ? I don't know how many deaths there would be in a year in that parish. There was also a death of a John Aitken in 1893 age 59 at Dumbarton # 61 and a John Aitken (1893) OO age at New Kilpatrick # 302, places which would be fairly close to Cumbernauld but then so were a lot of other places. Do you have any idea of where the family lived, worked etc. it helps to pin down who would be dying where, at such and such a time.. I just realized I didn't look at the female names but could try next week if no one else comes up with anything on this for you. Hope you may recognise the name Matthew or John, too bad they died too late to get the records from Salt Lake, 1855-75 and 1881 + 1891 only, regards Maureen Kuzyk ms McOnie

I have a receipt from Cumbernauld Burying Ground, Parochial Chambers, Cumbernauld, dated 31st March 1893, made out to Mr Robert AITKEN of Focister (?), Low Abronhills, Cumbernauld, in respect of Section 81 (?) and Lair 416 for 1.10.6d for lair and interment fee. I cannot find the death of the said Robert that year and wonder who it was bought for, who was buried there, or was he pre-paying his own funeral? Obviously I am researching AITKENS in Cumbernauld. 3. I'd be grateful for any help in identifying exactly where the following places are in Arrochar, Dunbarton. My g.g.g grandparents, Dougal Campbell and Catherine McDougall were married in Old Tarbert in 1792 (where is Old Tarbert in relation to Tarbert?). Their son Colin was baptised in Nov 1792 while the family was living in Stuckgown, Arrochar, and their daughter Mary was born in 1795 while the family was living in Garabel, Arrochar. Dougal was a forester and by 1805 had moved to Pollockshaws where he was a forester employed by Sir John Maxwell at Pollock and where he married for a second time, to a Mary Watson, by whom he had a daughter Agnes and sons James and William. 3. You need to look through the census name by name, district by district. I recently looked through a Dunbarton census, and found 8 districts. The census was not that long, I'd say it would be perhaps an hour or two (or so) of looking. 3. Hi, I am looking for information on a family named FLEMING who lived in New Kilpatrick sometime between the 1860's and 70's. I have had a really hard time tracking down this family because they moved around so much. I have tried to locate them on the 1871 census for Dumbarton but it was impossible because I had no address for them and, as far as I know, there is no index. What I am wondering is - does anyone one know of a way to track down a family through a census without having an address for them? I could use all the help I can get - thanks a lot Sarah Brown

    3. I FINALLY got my Dunbartonshire GenWeb site moved over to Rootsweb.....I have not been able to edit or add new items for a LONG time.... the new address is: http://www.rootsweb.com/~sctdnb/ Please change your bookmarks... Now, I would like to start a page on this site for Look-ups and Volunteers.....would all of you stop and think if you have a publications or any Dunbartoshire records that you would be willing to share with others..... For instance, I have a WONDERFUL book about Clydebank and would be glad to share or look-up items that may be of interest to you. Also, if you have any ideas of ANYTHING that could be added to our Dunbartonshire site, I would love to hear about them. I have had a number of people send me links to other Dunbartonshire sites, and I have been unable to link to them...in the next week I hope to do all that. When something is added, I will announce it on this mailing list. I will repeat this message probably once a week for a month or so, so just delete it when you see it come up again. I want to take this time to thank those of you who are helping others with their queries. You are a great group! Barbara Lewis, list manager

    1. CAMPBELL and SINCLAIR in Dumbarton
    2. Terry Beer
    3. Hello all. My gg grandfather William Robert CAMPBELL married Jane SINCLAIR, and though they married in England (and had been born elsewhere) they lived in Dumbarton and had most of their children there. William Robert CAMPBELL, (son of William CAMPBELL and Agnes WILSON) chr 4 Mar 1838 Lanark, married Jane SINCLAIR (dau. of Colin SINCLAIR and Margaret TOLMIE) chr 7 Aug 1840 Ross & Cromarty, on 25 Dec 1862 at Birkenhead, Cheshire, England. William Robert CAMPBELL was a Boilermaker, and died 2 Dec 1884 in Dumbarton. His widow, Jane, died 17 May 1918 in Paisley, Renfrew at the home of her son-in-law, D? KERRAN, Love Street, Paisley. (Jane may have had a brother, Colin SINCLAIR, also born Ross & Cromarty and also living nearby in Dumbarton in the 1880's.) William and Jane lived in Dumbarton at 16 Clyde Street and at 4 Victoria Street. I would greatly appreciate it if anyone can tell me anything about these streets. They had the following children: William b. 4 Feb 1864 Dumbarton, married (Agnes Wilson HILL) 27 Dec 1889 Dumbarton Colin 1866 Dumbarton John 1868 Falkirk Elizabeth 1871 Renfrew James 1873 Dumbarton Robert 1874 Dumbarton Charles A. abt. 1879 Dumbarton While I would love to find a fellow researcher on this line, I would also greatly appreciate any information at all on Dumbarton. I am planning to visit Scotland for the first time next year, and hope to be able to find where these ancestors lived. And of course, I would be delighted to find living descendents there! All the best, Terry Beer Lund BC Canada
