Anyway, such a plug tells you little. Who runs this business? What are their qualifications and track record? What services do they offer that merit a plug here? The genealogy world is full of "professional" research services, some of which are run by people who don't know enough to do be able to do a truly professional job. I have had the task on occasions to re-examine work done by so-called "professionals" and found some of it very questionable. The client only much later realised that all was not as it seemed. G.J.

    1. McCacheran/Alkin/Aitken/Gray/Fleming and more in Kirkintilloch
    2. Patrick A. Andrus
    3. These are all names found in Kirkintilloch, extracted from Familysearch and Auld Aisle Cemetery. They mostly reflect births of children or deaths, so I don't have marriage dates and very little else: Angus McCacheran married to Jean Rochead Jean Alkin/or Aitken married to John Rochead Ann Gray married to Robert Rochead Ann Fleming married to Andrew Rochead Grizel Philips married to James Rochead Jane Marshall married to James Rochead Sarah McCaw married to Andrew Rochead Obviously I'm researching the ROCHEAD name, but if you are working on any of these others, I would like to hear from you. Perhaps, there is a connection to be made. Thanks for tuning in, Patrick

    3. Hi Gloria, Join the group of us who have parents born in Clydebank...my mom was born there in 1911....in Radnor Park just off Kilbowie. Yes, there is a Renfrewshire site: http://britishislesgenweb.org/scotland/renfrew/index.html It looks like Frank answered your questions about the shipping yards...John Brown......I checked out my book "History of Clydebank" by John Hood....for the pub you asked about...not there. I tried to find something about rail engine building, but could not find anything...perhaps there was some in Glasgow...right next door. Good luck on your Clydebank research Please let me know if I can help you in any way. 3. Hi Val The Thompson family opened a shipyard in Clydebank around 1871,they had a previous one in Govan. The engine and boiler works was already in Clydebank. Are you sure they lived in Clydebank? Maybe they lived in the Glasgow Lanarkshire area,as workers were transported to the Thompson yard to work, from the Govan area. The 1871 census might be helpful, and if they were there in 1881,the census is indexed. Was your grandfather definitely born in Clydebank?what was his Christian name? His religion? Hutchesontown,Govan, had a large Irish Catholic population. Send me more info, and I will try to advise you. Regards Frank McGonigal

    1. MACKAYS/MCKAYS OF CARDROSS
    2. Hello fellow listers: I am posting this to several lists, in the hope that someone can help me over my brick wall. Seek ancestry of the following: DANIEL MACKAY/MCKAY, born possibly Cardross, Dunbartonshire, say around 1745-1755, married circa 1770, CHRISTIAN MACDONALD/MCDONALD. Known children, born in Cardross: 1. William, born 2 June 1772 2. Christian (female), born 12 April 1775 or 1783 3. Catherine/Katherine, born 24 December 1785; married 1807, Rev. James Thomson, and removed to New Brunswick where she died in 1857. According to family tradition, Daniel MacKay/McKay was described as a Scottish "laird", and was allegedly a descendant of Robert The Bruce (traditions being what they are, this possibility could also apply to his wife). Proof of this tradition would be most welcome. Any help appreciated. Rick Turner Dartmouth MA

    1. [DUNBARTONSHIRE] Location Question
    2. Don
    3. In every bit of data I have found in genealogy data for my ancestors in Scotland, it is stated that my 7xg grandfather was born in Dumbarton, Perthshire, Scotland, lived, married and had 7 children while he was the Pastor of the New Kilpatrick Parish of Perthshire, Scotland, and that he was executed in January 1692 for refusing to sign an oath to the Jacabites in Glasgow, Pershire, Scotland. According to the present day Scotland Web Site, New Kilpatrick Parish and Glasgow are located in Dunbartonshire, Scotland. Were these places ever located in Perthshire County in ancient times?
