    3. RE-- Introducing myself as requested by Barbara. I was born in Clydebank up in the ' HOLY CITY ' in 1932 ,it was called that because it was built on a hill, and the white flat roofed tenements reminded people of Jerusalem. I survived the BLITZ,and now live in Brampton Ontario Canada. My research in Dumbarton is trying to find descendants of ---- Daniel McColl, my Gr.Uncle, born Argyll 1845,who lived on High Street Dumbarton in 1869. Cheers Frank McGonigal Ont. 3. We want to welcome the newcomers that have joined us in the past week. The list has been quiet lately...unless you have done so recently, ......feel free to introduce yourselves briefly and give the surnames that you are researching....always put the SURNAME in the subject line, as this surname goes into the archives for others to find later. Thanks to all of you that are helping each other with MIs and other records. When you send records to each other, "reply to all" so that others may look over the information that you have. I need to remember to do myself, as I have a tendency to answer privately all most of the time. 2. Diane Riley
    3. I am looking for information on Finlay McMartin and Helen Martin who were the parents of my g-grandfather Alexander Robert McMartin (born in 1835 in Dumbarton). I have been unable to find Finlay and Helen ever actually living with their children: Helen, Mary, Finlay, Barbara Marion, Alexander Robert and Peter. To explain: In the 1841 Census the children Mary, Finlay, Barbara and Alexander were living in Church Street Dumbarton with Duncan and Catherine McArthur who were born in Argyleshire and were listed as aunt and uncle to the children. In the 1851 Census Alexander was again living with the McArthurs at 139 Castle St. Barbara (an annuitist) was living with Flora McInnes (who was also from Argyleshire) somewhere in Castle St, West Bridgend. So, where were Finlay and Helen while their children were growing up and where do I start looking? On 2 of Alexander's marriage certificates (he married 3 times) he describes his father as farmer and landholder. On his death certificate his father was listed as Army Officer. Your advice would be most appreciated and apologise if I've been long winded. 3. Hi, My family was from this area of Dunbartonshire (New Kilpartick). I think they arrived sometime between 1845-55. They too were from Ireland. The men in the family worked in the coal mines and the women in a paper mill. I have never been able to discover where in Ireland they originated from. Has anyone else with Irish ancestors in this area figured out where in Irleand their ancestors came from? I could use some advice. The family's name was Potts/ Lynas Thanks Sarah Brown Robert Kuzyk wrote: > Dear list, > From my notes, Maureen Kuzyk, > ------------------------------------------------- > > 1851 census East (New) Kilpatrick, Dunbartonshire? or > Stirlingshire? film # 103670 > > This film supposedly contains some of the Dunbartonshire census. > For New Kilpatrick, it starts labelled, East Kilpatrick, Stirling, > Parish 500 and in other places, Parish 361.
