This mailing list is now hooked up to the GenConnect Board on the Dunbartonshire GenWeb Home page...so whenever anyone posts a message to the board, we get that message here on the mailing list. Many people use the boards that don't use the mailing list....so that will now give us more opportunity to see those messages. Don't miss the Dunbartonshire Surname list that was posted through Genuki yesterday.....I will be starting our own surname list very soon. Hi, I was wondering if anyone on the list would know of the name and address for a historical society, library, or archives for the New Kilpatrick area. Thank You. Sarah Brown
I am researching the McKENZIE family of Church St., Dumbarton. Father Kenneth died 1870. Mother Margaret HARRE died 1875. Their 4 children then lived with various relatives in Renfrewshire, and Renton (DBN) but the 10 year old daughter PRISCILLA McKENZIE seems to have been sent to Australia where she died in 1890 after 15 years in that colony. Can anyone help with any suggestions as to how a 10 year old would have been sent to Australaia at that time? Were there any children's homes or philanthropic organisations sending children as early as 1875? She is not recorded as an assisted immigrant in Australia. She was not sent by Quarrier's Homes. Thank you. Dominique Young

Looking for the father of William Wilson Duncan born May 2/1900. His father was a minister in Clydebank area when he was a child. After his mother died his father remarried and moved with William Wilson to the Campsie Stirlingshire area. The other older siblings which included a Ben and Margaret(Meg) stayed in the Glasgow area. Sorry don't have the names of his father or either mother. Hello! This is my first post to the list. I am a professor in Ohio, and also a Canadian citizen quite recently re-located to the USA. My great- grandfather, Hugh Magnus Bell, was a master tailor in Cardross from 1900 to 1910. I think that means he ran an establishment with employees prior to moving to Canada in 1910 . My grandfather, Hugh MacLachlan Bell went to school in Cardross about 1900-1910, I think, and belonged to the "Boys' Brigade", which would point to a church connection (Grandad Hugh was Presbyterian by christening, I know, although his Invernesshire maternal cousins were Roman Catholic). At the age of about l8, he was employed at the local newspaper in Helensburgh, the nearest town. During this time he was also a member of the Argyle & Southern Highlanders militia unit, and - I recall him saying - accompanied a group to London for something in connection with Queen Victoria 's ... Diamond Jubilee? (I hope I have that last bit straight) He and his Dad , Hugh Magnus Bell, up-rooted to Canada in 1912 following the death of Hugh Magnus's wife, Christina Campbell. Christina or Christiona was a Campbell of Invernesshire, and is buried at a cemetery in Lochgilphead. I do not know the name of the ship my grandfather anf great-grandfather took to Canada. Would there be a Passenger List of Ocean passenger vessels from Scotland I could consult? My grandad had a brother, Alexander, who died very young. I think that's all I know, forgive me if I exceeded the bounds of information discussed on List. In any event, I am beginning to try to build our Bell family tree - and would be most grateful for any leads anyone may have or may in future discover as they pursue their own kin. Cheers, Andrew Hugh Taylor
Hello Everyone, I am a new lister, and wanted to say hello. My name is Debbie Derrick, and I live in B.C. My Mother's side of the family is from Duntocher, and my main research lines are the STEWART'S & the COYLE'S of Duntocher. Of course, along the way, there are lots of collateral names! So I would love to hear from other lister's researching in the same area. Maybe we can fine a connection! :-) Best wishes to all, Debbie
Hi Barbara, I have a couple of Moore's collected along the way, from the same area. Maybe we can find a connection? Anne MOORE married Richard STEWART abt. 1831, probably in Ireland. Their Son: Richard STEWART married Catherine STEWART, August 24, 1857 in Duntocher. One of the witnesses to the marriage was Edward MOORE. My guess is that Edward MOORE was a cousin (??) of Richard's... or possibly his Uncle. Do these names ring any bells? Debbie Derrick, B.C.
