David, I assume you have check the "Scottish Records" or OPR records in marriages for this couple....then checked those same OPR records to see if children were born to this couple, and if so....are you descended from those children. To know if you are descended from someone, you have to work from YOU on back...one generation at a time.....let me know if there is any other way I can help... I am still trying to find out how my Priscilla McKENZIE was sent to Australia, aged 10, in 1875 when she was orphaned. Does anyone know what organisations were involved in child migration to Australia at that time? It was not Quarriers in Renfrewshire. If she went as a member of a family party, would there have been any official agency that needed to be involved? Any help gratefully received. Dominique Young

Greetings to the List. My name is Mary LEA, I live in N.S.W. Australia, this is my first contribution. The names I am researching are - LEE, THOMSON, ROBB all lived in Alexandria. My Grandfather Charles LEE was born in Blantyre but married my Grandmother Annie THOMSON in 1896 in Bonhill. Annie's parents were Mathew and Christine THOMSON (maiden surname ROBB) - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - I need some assistance - if anyone can help me with a couple of queries I would be most grateful. 1) My Mother and her siblings attended The Vale of Leven Academy and I am wondering if school records would have been archived. If so where would I start my enquiries? 2) Is it possible to access Coronial Records - I am looking for an Inquest around 1928. It concerns an accident which occurred during a train journey between Glasgow to Alexandria. Thanks in anticipation. Mary LEA
Hi Listers: I am trying to locate records of the family of George HOWAT and Marion BURNS. The following is what I know: George and Marion had at least three children: John Burns d. abt. 1845, Kirkintilloch, married 20 June 1864 in Kilsyth, Sterling John died 1895 in Lanarkshire. Marion b. abt. 1845 in Kirkintilloch, died 15 January 1912 in Allanton Mill, Cambusnethan, Lanark, married John Storer BLYTH 28 December 1666 in Partick, Lanark. Ann b. abt 1848 in Scotland (she never gave the place!) no death date known, married James Hamilton form Ireland, 32 April 1874 in Partick, Glasgow. I have not been able to find the death of Marion BURNS. The only marriage certificate that indicated she had died was that of Ann. However, the death information does not appear to be in the Civil Registration. On George's death certificate if mentioned widower of Marion BURNS married to Margaret WARDROSS. This marriage I have been unable to locate. Can anyone help? Isobel, Uxbridge, Ontario. Canada.
Does anyone have access to the Poor House Indexes? I am interested in the information about George HOWAT who died in the Kirkintilloch Poor House 14 November 1873. His first wife was Marion BURNS who had apparently died. Wife at time of death was Margaret WARDROSS. I have been unable to find any trace of George in Kirkintilloch. Isobel, Uxbridge, Ontario.
Posted on: Shire of Dunbarton, Scotland Queries Forum Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/Scotland/Dunbarton?read=597 Surname: Lee, McCulloch, Galbraith, Miller ------------------------- I am looking for information on William HAY (1805), who married Mary LEE (abt. 1804 in Ireland). Their children were born in Old Kilpatrick, Dumbartonshire: Jean (1828) Mathew (1830) Janet Moncrief (1833) John Masterson (1836), and my direct ancestor Robert (1839), who married Mary MCCULLOCH and Agnes GALBRAITH. I am hoping to find the ancestors of the above Mary LEE, and I am hoping to verify that the parents of the above William are William HAY and Agnes MILLER. I would love to share information with an descendant of the above families.
Hello, Jill, Laraine and Everybody, Jill REALLY came through on this with the 1861 census information. I'm sooooooooooooooo pleased! After months of wasted effort, all I had to do was ask - it seems like a miracle! Thank you very much, Jill! I still have some unresolved issues around this couple, and would very much appreciate help from someone. M Y S T E R Y NO. 1: Euphemia Stewart's parentage. I've looked on the IGI and the Scottish parish records as well as the English civil registrations without success. I've also looked for her marriage in both Scotland and Wales but, again, nothing. I have found her death registration in England and have ordered it, but I understand that it won't have any useful information. The 1861 census indicates that Euphemia was born in Glasgow. Would someone be kind enough to look up the 1851 census for me for Euphemia Stewart aged about 14? M Y S T E R Y NO. 2: Euphemia had a brother, Duncan, born about 1825. In the 1881 (Sunderland) census, he lives with William and Euphemia and is unmarried. Perhaps he lived with his parents and Euphemia in 1851. Perhaps he had a different mother (given the age difference). Can anyone throw light on him please? M Y S T E R Y N O. 3: Alexander Rooks. This child was born to William and Euphemia in Bonhill, Dunbartonshire, in 1860. He doesn't appear with them in the 1861 census so, presumably, he died early. Another Alexander Rooks was born in Bonhill in 1861, to William Rooks and Janet McKirdy (or Mc Kirdy). I'M BEGINNING TO WONDER ABOUT WILLIAM - seems he was quite a lad. I would appreciate it if someone could lookup Alexander Rooks/Janet McKirdy in the 1861 Bonhill census. Thanks to everyone. I'm thoroughly enjoying watching the mail conversations. Dear All, Barbara has done a great job with the list and deserves our thanks for all the work she does for Dunbartonshire interests. Perhaps more of you will think about adding your names. These lists do work and there are lots of success stories of researchers who have found that missing link through them. As an example - I now have lots of new information and a photo of my husband's 3X great-grandmother by responding to a posting on such a list. Please do consider submitting your interests to: http://www.rootsweb.com/~sctdnb/surnames.html Thanks, Nancy
