Searching for links to Hugh TRIPNEY and Janet McINDOE. I have an IGI record for their marriage 26 Nov 1852, New Kilpatrick, Dunbarton, Scotland. They moved temporarily to India where their daughter Isabella Macklin TRIPNEY was born. She married John PATTERSON about 1880 and had children Hugh, John, Francis, Margaret Elizabeth and Jenny. PATTERSON family lived near Glasgow
Banns for a marriage were usually called in the parishes of both the Bride and the Groom so that everyone who knew the families was informed. And this made it harder for people to commit bigamy. So if the Bride came from Glasgow and the groom from Old Kilpatrick the banns would be called in both parishes, but of course the wedding would take place in only one. (Glasgow where the Bride lived). This can be handy for the researcher - records exist in two places and sometimes there are clues to be gleaned by checking them both out in the Old Parish Registers. catherine

I have been researching the STEWART family which emigrated to Caledonia County, Vermont, U.S. in the 18th century. Claudius Stuart (Claud Stewart) died in Barnet, Caledonia County, Vermont, U.S. in 1811 aged 100 years. He was christened Aug 1711 in Old Kilpatrick parish but was born in "Rosebury Nr Glasgow". I can't find any such place. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Also, Claud Stewart married Janet McRab in Glasgow 17 May 1747. The Old Kilpatrick register entry for 2 Jun 1747 records their marriage "in Glasgow". Can anyone tell me why a Glasgow marriage would have later been recorded in Dunbartonshire, please?

Hello to all on the list. I have just joined and i am not too sure on the whole geographical aspect of Scotland... but i am assuming that DUNBAR CASTLE is in DUNBARTONSHIRE. If i am wrong, tell me please! I need to know if there are any archieves on Dunbar Castle and the town that surrounds it. All websites found on search engines come up with tourism sites! My Great Uncle was William Reginald Ellis (little Willy) he was born within the castle grounds on 6th July 1922, and was the first boy to be born within the castle grounds for 100 years, and the town held a celebration... however he died 15th November 1922 of pneumonia and the shops closed on the day of the funeral. Details have been found in the local registry office and the grave plot is 976. On top of a hill looking out over the sea facing North. Can anyone help me in obtaining newpaper archieves of the birth/death and the events in the town? (Belhaven?) Does anyone remember this? Has anyone that has visited the graveyard, spotted a tiny grave containing Little Willy? Are there any sites on the net which may have recorded the towns history? Have your heard of this story before??? Any info will be gratefully recieved. thankyou Jenny Bostock (Nth Buckinghamshire) ____________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Hello MM, I'm sorry but I don't know what guest book it was. I just clicked on the link. My gg grandfather is William Ferris Stirling, born 1/28/1842 in Virginia. His brothers and sisters, who were all believed to be born in Scotland, are: David, Margaret, Esther, and Mary. I have William Ferris Stirling's Death certificate that says his Father is David Stirling, born in Scotland, and Anna Ferrio (not sure on the spelling), born in Scotland as well. The VA census records for William Ferris Stirling say his father and mother are from Scotland as well. As far as where I got Duntocher from, William and his brother, David, moved to Ohio. David and his son, John "Bud" Stirling built a Civil War Memorial Band Stand in Gallipolis, OH. Below the memorial was written "Built by David Stirling, a native from Duntocher, Scotland and his son Bud Stirling." Hope that maybe you recognize some of these names. Thanks, David Stirling.
Dear Listers, I now have: 1. An 1841 list of those entitled to vote in municipal (town) elections in Dumbarton. 2. An 1861-62 list of those entitled to vote in Dumbarton Burgh in parliamentary elections. Information given consists of names, addresses, occupations and whether owners or tenants As the franchise was given, by the Reform Act of 1832 and the Burgh Reform Act of 1833, to males who paid rent of at least £10 per annum in the town, those entitled were the shopkeepers and better off artisans. Many of the names are the same as those in the Pigot and Slater directories. To all new listers: Details about Dunbartonshire sources etc. can be found at: http://www.geocities.com/lennoxlookups/ Nancy
