--Hi Torie: I am researching the DOLLAR family. I wonder if you could give me a little more information about your Margaret - who were her parents? My DOLLAR family were born in Glasgow, but they were, I believe, connected to the DOLLAR family in Kirkintilloch. I am trying to find this link. George DOLLAR born about 1780/90 married Jean/Jane GILMOUR in Glasgow. I do not know where George was born. They had four children: George born 1814 married Janet LEITCH (our ancestor) Elizabeth born 1816 John born abt. 1819 married Janet MACHAIL, Robert born 1824 - > >and my ancestor: >HOPKIN Robert lawful son of Robert HOPKIN "Hinger here" and Margaret DOLLAR >born 18 March bap 30th Ditto. (I have no idea what that "hinger here" thing >could be or even mean) > > >Here's hoping I help someone of find another cousin! >Torie

Hi list, I'm researching the Kirkintilloch and possibly Bonhill parishes, but nothing has turned up in the established Church of Scotland records for the marriage I want. Can anyone tell me what other parish records (e.g. Roman Catholic, Free Church) exist for these areas circa 1832, and if they're available only in the Scottish National Archives in Edinburgh? Hello listers, I am new to this list and these are my interests. I am looking for information on James Watson quarryman and Jessie Smillie. Their daughter Margaret was born 1897 in Cumbernauld. James and Jessie were married Dec 18th 1896. Does this ring any bells with anyone, if so I would love to hear from you. My goal is to find out who is the mother of my GGrandmother. I have her birth extract which states that Euphemia Couper was born April 18th 1885, in Causewayhead. States father as John Finlay Couper, grocer's salesman, mother as Rebecca Stirling, listed as present. Info on their marriage is May 2nd 1884, Glasgow. There were written places that has been crossed out and stamped w/ a different name. Guessing that the boundries changed, or something. Anyway, the many place names appearing are Dalmuir, Logie, Old Kilpatrick, Dunbarton, Strirling & Perth. I have a document that places John F. Couper at 314 Blythswood Terrace, Clydeb?mk in June 1901. Have found all but mother in the 1891 census. John F. is listed as a married border, age 32, in Kirkcaldy & Abbotshall, Fife. Effie & her brother John are listed as borders, aged 5 & 4, of Christina Drysdale of Perth Road, Dunblane, Perth. I have documentation that signed children over to ?????(no name) in 1893, signed by their Dad. His address stated then was 31 Smith Street, Hillhead, Glasgow. Okay, here's the scoop... Family Rumour is that The mother died and the children were adopted by her sister Rebecca Mary Gray Stirling who was married to Robert McBride Stirling. My GGrandmother knew and remembered these people. They are who she considered her parents. That would make the mother a Gray (but the birth extract states that she was a Stirling). Which, if is rumour, they were adopted by family, would make the mother the sister of Robert Stirling, not Rebecca Gray. I have info on Robert McBride Stirling, but have not been ablr to find any relation to a Rebecca. I have no info on Rebecca mary Gray Stirling. This couple was married in 1895 and listed at 72 Kinsore Rd, Newlands, Glasgow S.E. in 1945. He was a partner in a Jeweler shop at 38 Queen St., Glasgow named Stirling & Stewart. I believe I have found John Finlay Couper's family in 1881 census, at 1 Falshaw St. South Leith, Edinburgh. His Dad is John Couper & his Mom is Margaret Brown. Am guessing that I have Rebecca Stirling's family (Mom on Effie's birth extract) at 537 Govan Rd. Govan, Lanark (It was mentioned by a distant relative that the Stirlings were very prominent people in the Govan area.) The names seem to make sense also... Dad being John Stirling & Mom being Euphemia Kennedy (Turnbull in 1st marriage) Stirling. The children are listed as Rebecca, Euphemia & John (certainly family naming ??). I believe this to be my GGandmother's mother, but have no way of puting her with John Finlay Couper. Have not been able to find documentation of the marriage listed on Effie's birth extract. The GRO couldn't find anything either. SO... if anyone can help I would be most grateful!! Hello, I was wondering if anyone had tried obtaining wills from the Scottish Record Office, which I guess is now the National Archives? If I provide them with the exact name, date and place of death, will they send me photocopies of any existing wills? Has anyone tried this and what have your experiences been? Thanks. Looking for James BROWN who was living at 7 Thimble Street, Renton in January 1916. He was the nephew of Mary BROWN WAUGH who passed away at that time. We suspect his mother may have been Belle BROWN who lived in Dumbarton. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I was visiting the gravesite of my gg-grandparents, Robert Loudon and Margaret Bryce, in Elgin, Quebec, Canada, recently, and took note of the three headstone incriptions below. Maybe someone will find them useful... The _real_ reason I'm posting this is because I'm reasonably sure the inscription on Robert Loudon's headstone reads "Native of Cumbernauld", but that is just a guess on my part because the stone has deteriorated so badly in the middle part of the town name. If anyone could confirm that Cumbernauld is indeed the birthplace of Robert Loudon, I would be forever grateful, because this has been a longstanding "brick wall" to me. The inscriptions follow my signature. Regards, Jim Loudon jloudon@hotmail.com http://www.loudon.org ----- Headstone #1 -- Capt. R. Loudon Died Sept. 17, 1900 Age 90 years Native of Cumbernauld Margaret Bryce His Wife Died July 14, 1891 Age 78 years Native of Iona, Argyll, Scotland ----- Headstone #2 -- Catherine E. Hi Arthur: I wonder if you know if the Dumbarton Library has an e-mail address. I have their postal address, but thought I might send an e-mail instead. I am interested to find out if they have a Family History of the DOLLAR family. Thank you. Isobel, Uxbridge, Ontario.
Eileen Re Clyde Glasgow,Clyde is a parish in Glasgow,no connection to Clydebank. Could Gordon St.be in Clyde Parish Glasgow ?? are you sure about the Clydebank connection??some people get mixed up with Clydebank, and living on the Banks of the River Clyde, which could be anywhere. Were Williams Parents Wiliiam Livingstone and Helen Brennan ??--I found this in the I.G.I. --if that's the case, then it must be Clyde Glasgow you are looking for. You should try to look at the 1871 census of Clyde Parish Glasgow,it may show you the whole family living at Gordon St.in Glasgow. You can find a list of census films at www.familysearch.org in the Catalogue. Hope this helps, contact me anytime if you have any further questions. Cheers Frank McGonigal Eileen McKay wrote: > Hi Frank > Thanks a million for all your information. Hi Eileen There was a Gordon St.in Clydebank before the Blitz in 1941,there is a list of bombs that fell on Clydebank, and in two cases it mentions Gordon St.so it was there, and it was probably around the centre of town. My more recent map,1986,mentions a Gordon Rd.I don't know if it's the same one. There is no Gordon St on the list. By the way Clydebank is not in Glasgow.Under the old boundaries,Clydebank was in Dunbartonshire, and Glasgow was in Lanarkshire.Remember this when doing your research before the 1970s However they were quite close to each other, and it can be confusing to anyone not familiar with the area.I was born there!! You should try and check the Scottish Birth Indexes around that time at an L.D.S Family History Centre.
