    1. WILLIAM MACDUFF
    2. Ray Christmas
    3. I shall have to unsubscribe for a while due to heavy other workload. I'm not having much success in tracking down WILLIAM'S departure from Scotland by ship between 1859 and 1868, as a stowaway (if the family stories are true) or as a crew member or as an assisted passage immigrant. This task is made even more difficult if the information that I have by letter from the Maritime Museum on The Clyde, is correct, that all except every 10th year of ship passenger records were given (!) to the University of Newfoundland. Newfoundland is so far off the 'beaten track' of flights from NZ to UK, that it's going to be very expensive to make a side trip . Kind regards, from New Zealand, mail to:ray.christmas@inspire.net.nz

Indeed I am related to Dot Murphy in Australia and my maiden name was ROWATT. John Rowatt was born in Kirkintilloch and moved to Canada with his family in 1815 so starting the Ontario Rowat's. Mary McKinlay from Kilsyth was my 4th. GGrandmother. Still working on the McKinlay line not getting any where at the moment so it is very frustrating. Have you been able to contact Jason? Good hunting. June

    2. Posted on: Shire of Dunbarton, Scotland Queries Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/Scotland/Dunbarton/666 Surname: McKinlay, M'Kinlay, Mackinlay ------------------------- Dear June, How fortuitous for you to have that information. That's the third source for Dunbartonshire M. I.'s that I know about. First, was the Charles Rogers' 2 volume work of that topic, published by Heritage Press, that presumably had the M. I.'s for most counties in Scotland of yore. I'm actually getting photocopies of the Dunbartonshire M. I's from a library in the U. S. that holds the original volume as a reference item only. However, I don't know how complete or accurate that list will be. Secondly, the Clan Colquhoun Society UK has a gentleman who is researching and producing pamhlets from each of the Dunbartonshire parishes on the M. I.'s in their respective cemeteries. I have those from Rhu, Dumbarton and St. MacKessog's in Luss. As a mattter of fact, I've just gone downstairs and pulled out my third source, which may be that which you have. Is it the Monumental Inscriptions (pre-1855) in Dunbartonshire by John Fowler Mitchell, C.I.E. and Sheila Mitchell, produced for the Scottish Genealogy Society, 1969? If identical, I am still grateful you posted the message and offered to look up names, but I plan to compare that source with the other two sources of M. I.'s to see if there is corroboration in all three. Do let me know about your source of M. I.'s and if you have any other McKinlay information to share. I wonder if you are distantly related to both a Dot Murphy in Australia and to a Barbara Doss McKinlay in Fremont, CA, who also go back in their McKinlay lines to Stirlingshire - and, in Dot's case, to a John Rowatt there. If you'd care to check it out, please visit http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~mckinlay and look for their family histories under _Family Trees Posted by Others_. Many thanks for thinking of me. Kind regards, Bob
